The very promising four-year-old Rhythm To Spare score a good first-up win. He settled back in ninth place and was about eight lengths from the leader, as he commenced a run nearing the 600m point. He made good ground (wide) rounding the bend, challenged strongly at the 200m and dug deep in the closing stages for a narrow but impressive win. Lord Durante raced outside the leader, took a narrow lead passing the 300m and fought gamely to the post only being caught in the final few strides for a good second. Soros was seventh on the rails, switched between runners on turning for home and challenged strongly at the 200m. He tired a little in the final stages, battling on for a sound third. Weissmuller raced behind the leader, got an inside run at the 300m and fought on for fourth, after having every chance. Cornell was near the rear to the 600m and ran on well late for a good first-up fifth. *ANZ
