Haunui Farm Counties Bowl (LR)

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

This Listed 1100m Open Handicap saw an all run on finish for the top three and the first four home were separated by just three-quarters of a length. The worst weighted runner by far in Fully Funded sat wide fifth and under clear topweight of 60kg loomed up then led at the 200m. He fought off all challengers to win by a head in 1:03.92 and record his first ever Blacktype win strangely after having missed five times prior with four flops and a fourth. The 6yo was fresh up and recording his eighth win from twenty-five starts having never looked like a Listed or Group sprinter but is now clear topweight in races showing the massive lack of depth. He is big and strong and tough but would not scare any genuine Group sprinter surely but all that will be determined over Summer and seeing if the sprinting ranks are really as bad as it seems at the moment. Where are the younger runners coming through? Go Nicholas tried hard and the also 6yo drove through from the fourth the inner but missed and for reality purposes he is just a four-win gelding. Heroic Valour ran home well from the rear for third and this 4yo should measure up in the major sprints but cannot be ridden so cold as then has too much to do. Ferrando the leader was a close up fourth but the bias all day saw them swamped many times and he was another example. Chachar ran on well from second last while Irish Moon had every chance and 8yo fought on under the second highest weight. Prince Of Passion was okay after knuckling at the start and is looking for further and Il Cavallo now ridden cold is still not genuine. I Am Poppy the visiting 4yo mare with upside sadly bled and is banned for three months. This was a weak field with no real depth and only a handful of actual sprinters anywhere near Open Class. Heroic Valour being a 4yo is the one with it all ahead in theory but the 3yo form of him from last season behind and around the likes of Ugo Foscolo, Savile Row, La Diosa and Volpe Veloce has been very ordinary since. Jon Snow may have stood up but at middle distance and we are talking sprinter-milers and the form at this juncture is simply not there or trustable.
