Lahqa broke well from barrier ten under apprentice rider Dylan Dunn and quickly took up the running. The filly was temporarily challenged for the lead rounding the turn but was back in front with 400m to go positioned on the fence. Dunn began to drive Lahqa rigorously inside the final 300m and moved off the rail, which allowed the runner-up to challenge on her inside, but Lahqa showed a willing attitude to eventually win by half a length. Weather The Storm stole the rail under Dwayne Dunn in the closing stages and looked to head the winner inside the final 200m. Weather The Storm weakened inside the final 50m but ran a good race in second place nevertheless.
