A.R. Creswick Series Final (LR)
Illustrious Lad was a little slow to move in from his rails barrier (1) and settled in sixth place, behind runners. He got a split nearing the 300m, took the lead at the 100m and then fought back gamely to score in a photo. Sang Choi Bao settled back in second last place in the eight-horse field. He went to the centre of the track at the 400m, put in a strong run to challenge on passing the 100m and battled well for a close second. Favourite Rough Justice raced keenly, following a moderate early tempo (first 600m 36.24), in third place behind the leaders. He went to the rails side to challenge nearing the 400m and then battled on to finish third. Outsider Hell On Earth made ground from last to finish (3.4 lengths) fourth. Mohave (fifth, beaten 4.2 lengths) led but disappointed, as did Face Forward, who was second to the 400m before finishing (4.7 lengths) sixth and Husson Eagle who tired from fourth at the 400m to finish (6 lengths) last.
