Canali was quickly away and went straight to the lead. He travelled well in front, dashed clear on turning for home, then fought back under hard riding to just hold on for a narrow but good win. Such Hope began well from his outside barrier (11) but he was caught wide. He was eased to race midfield, still three wide without cover before moving up wide-out at the turn. He then finished gamely in the straight to just miss in a photo for a good second, his difficult barrier proving costly. Decircles ($2.90 favourite) settled fourth, one out and one back, before moving up three wide to challenge at the turn. He then kept fighting on for third, in a sound first-up effort. *ANZ
