Australian quick Josh Hazlewood has lifted the lid on Steve Smith's opening credentials, telling RSN he used to play against the gun batsman at junior level.

"I remember playing Steve, I think it was in high school, and he always opened the batting," Hazlewood said.

Smith is moving up the order following the retirement of David Warner.
