Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - COEUR DE LYON (1) has barely put a foot wrong in his last five and is in terrific form. Deserves to carry the top weight on recent efforts and gets key booking in Nunes on eight-day turnaround. Only has to gold his form to be taking this out. COOL MAGNUM (4) shocked punters last week on the Parks track when getting the bob. Gets well at the weights again with the 3kg claimer sticking. Deserves a lot more respect this time. THE HASS (3) wasn't at his best last time but his form prior reads well. Steps back out to a winning trip and is among the main hopes. QUIK RHAPID (6) bounced back to form last start when getting the job done at Mt Gambier. This is tougher but he is in the mix.
RACE 2 - This looks to be R & C Jolly's for the taking. There's little doubting that the best of KARAVAS (2) handles this field but we haven't seen that for a while. She found a red-hot field on Oaks Day in the G3 Red Roses where she battled on soundly. Nowhere near as tough this time and it's worth noting that blinkers come off for the first time. Bold showing anticipated. PURE AQUA (3) is yet to strike through this time in but has been attacking the line. Gets a nice weight swing on the last start winner. Blinkers on first time will have her focused on the quick back-up and she can get the job done. DANCING STORM (1) had the better of a few of these last start when leading pillar-to-post bit does carry more weight for it. Draws low, so should be in this for a long way. Smaller cases can also be made for DYER (6) and IMMORTAL BLISS (8) who have their share of ability.
RACE 3 - HARLEY'N'ROSE (9) hasn't quite been at his best in his three runs back but has shown glimpses. Should be hitting his straps now fourth-up on the short turnaround and gets in super light. Will drift back early and be charging very hard late. MERCHANT BOSS (4) wasn't up to scratch last time here but had been ticking along nicely prior. Is drawn to get all the favours over a favoured journey and is sure to be very competitive. WHISKEY HANGOVER (6) arrived just in time to get the verdict two back and then went desperately close to making it two on the bounce. Has found form and is among the main hopes. FAROOQ (1) split Whiskey Hangover and the winner last start. Strips fitter third-up and has to be considered.
RACE 4 - STARTS NOW (2) lived right up to market expectation here last start when making light work of his rivals over this trip. Carries more weight now but still has more to offer. Big chance to repeat the dose. Fellow last-start winner EVENTUALLY (4) was also impressive, doing it from the other end. Will drift back early and be saved for the final shot at them. THINKINGNINTYNINE (3) was the obvious lashing light last start when missing by a lip here. Should handle the rise in trip and has hot-hand hoop in Pannell sticking. Have to consider. MR TRAFFICANTI (6) next best.
RACE 5 - Cracking race. WATCHME WIN (5) took another big step forward last start when blowing a solid BM84 field away. Kept fresh for this with a month between runs as he returns to scene of the crime. Progressive type that can win again. DELIGHTFUL SHECKY (7) has built nicely into this with two solid hitouts. Should be hitting his straps now and can give this a big shake. SIXTEEN REASONS (4) has solid form around a majority of these. Could land in a tricky spot from the low draw but if the gaps appear she'll take some stopping. SIR SWAY (2) took care of a few these last start. Up in the weights now but deserves respect. THE GREAT BABY (8) was super first-up but not as impressive last time. Keeping safe third-up.
RACE 6 - BIG STORY (5) got the job done in the most impressive fashion last start. This is trip doesn't look a bother and will prove hard to stop now that he's found winning form. ARUGAMAMA (3) looked to have the perfect set-up last week but was too conservative early and let the leader get away with murder in a small field. Likely to drift back from the ugly draw but will run the trip and can cause a right scare if close enough when turning. TIPPA (1) hasn't put a foot wrong in his last two as he shoots for the hat-trick. Meets a tougher field but is sure to take another strong account of himself. SIR KINGSFORD (2) had it all his own way here last start when leading pillar-to-post. Expect there to be more pressure on him this time but he deserves respect. MONTEPULCIANO (8) is the one to watch for charging late in the piece. Don't dismiss, can add some juice to the exotics. GLENS TOP CAT (6) next best.
RACE 7 - MIDNIGHT MASS (4) turned in another strong performance last start when rattling home to fill the frame in the LR John Letts Cup. Fitter again and has Nunes sticking. Sure to be making his presence felt. EASY CAMPESE (3) went one better after a close finish in the Gawler Gold Cup, leading from go-to-woah two weeks ago on the Parks surface. Versatile type who should be hitting his peak now. RIVERPLATE (6) was an eye-catcher last start in the Murray Bridge Gold Cup. Talented type on his day and gets a key booking in hot-hand hoop Todd Pannell. Is certainly one to consider. JACK THE LAD (1) was far from disgraced last start at Flemington. This isn't as tough and he's in the mix. Last-start winner BAMYAN BUDDHA (7) also needs to be considered.
RACE 8 - SEEKING STARDOM (2) blew them away late when resuming over this track and trip last start. Has clearly come back in top order and is well placed to go on with it with Holder sticking. SUPER ALANA (9) didn't give her rivals a sniff fresh when leading pillar-to-post at Murray Bridge. Should look to hunt forward again and give herself every chance. TOSEN WATER (4) caught the eye last start when rattling home to fill the frame on the Parks track. Strips fitter third-up on the quick back-up and is drawn much kinder. Genuine hope. CARARADA (5) made light work of her rivals here two back. Not as effective last time but did make some late inroads after settling a long way off them. Kept fresh for this with a month between runs. Can measure up. KINETIC JEWEL (6) wasn't far away fresh but hasn't quite been able to go on with it. Drawn sticky but is worth keeping safe on best figures.
RACE 9 - THE JOURNO (8) has returned in terrific order. Was a barnstorming winner here fresh and then was a complete forgive last start when given next to no chance of winning from where he was in running. Can hopefully take closer order from the better draw, will take some stitching if they do. MIGHTY SAPPHIRE (5) finished all over of the top of them two weeks ago in a weaker grade. Meets a tougher field but is going super and is in this up to his ears. SHOOTOOSE (4) had the better of The Journo last start but had a much more favourable run. Concedes a bit of weight to a few of these but still has more to offer third-up. Have to take seriously. GIVE SOME LIP (10) was an-eye catcher here fresh. Not as effective last time but was still strong through the line. Blinkers on first time should have him more focused. Can give this a shake. OVERSTRIKE (3) and HOWL (2) are others with smaller claims but deserves consideration.
