Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - ZOETE'S ROCK (3) has placed twice at Listed level and is sharp first-up. He's trialled well and has a handy 2kg claim. Rates the one to beat. GO JEANIE (2) resumes off a big Open 2 win here. Owns a trial win and is proven first-up. She will be naturally improved and is sure to race well. SKY LAND (6) disappointed as a short-priced favourite at Launceston. She will be fitter and has plenty to give. Freshened and can make quick improvement. WILD NIGHTS (5) led and deserved her Maiden win. She keeps the handy 2kg claim and will use the inside barrier. She will give a sight.
RACE 2 - Tricky. STREET DIVA (13) resumes and has switched from a Victorian yard. She rates well off her two provincial efforts and has trialled sharply x2 for the return. The inside gate advantages and Pires is a key jockey engagement. PUZZLE MISS (3) trialled well but looked a run short first-up. She went close here at the back of her last preparation and has more to give. Maps well and has a handy 2kg claim. SUPER CUTTER (7) races forward and gets in light with the 3kg claim. Peaks and will give a sight. FIRST LINE (9) has the ability but has to manage a wide barrier. Has a 2kg claim and has trialled well for her return. ROLLING IN IT (4) for the multiples.
RACE 3 - Tough. NAVARRE RIVER (5) missed the jump on debut but hit the line well over 1220m. He will give away a start again but he strips fitter and the longer sprint will suit. GEE GEES RUN OUT (8) came off a long spell and didn't have the best of it first-up. She will be a lot sharper today and will use the low barrier. Rates strongly at best and will get every chance. MATEUS (1) resumes with a 2kg claim. Usually needs one but has trialled well and has scope for improvement. PHERE THE GIRLS (10) peaks and is capable of better. Has the first-time tongue tie applied and is in the mix.
RACE 4 - CARTOON GRAVEYARD (4) was an easy winner here before the spell and had genuine excuses first-up. Performs second-up and gets in light this grade with a 2kg claim atop. He can use the rail and has plenty up his sleeve. GENERAL ASSEMBLY (5) has been knocking on the door and also tumbles in weight. Maps for a soft run and the shorter trip should suit. FAKE MAGIC (3) has the outside barrier but is quick early. Rates strongly off the 68 win and will be in the finish with average luck. SIR SIMON (1) has been freshened and forget the latest on the synthetic. The shorter tip won't bother and the 4kg claim brings him into it.
RACE 5 - CORNELIAN BAY (1) peaks and has been threatening a win in stronger grade. Has a handy 2kg claim and this is a winnable assignment. GEE GEES ME BOY (4) resumes and is proven fresh. Brings a strong win from Launceston and has readied for this with a trial win. He's good enough. CREATIVE LICENCE (3) will race forward from the inside barrier and is proven second-up. He has claims, as does RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (2) who draws low with Pires aboard and he's proven second-up.
RACE 6 - Tough. ESPRIT DIVA (4) won two trials and was too good for the Launceston Maidens on debut. She led in that and may skip across the field and do the same here. Presents fitter and won't have to improve much to take the next step. DYSART (7) peaks and can show more back to a shorter sprint. Has peaks that would win this but has been racing off those. GEE GEES MOONLITE (9) brings strong form from the synthetic and will be in the finish if she can replicate those efforts on the turf. CARNELIAN ROCK (3) resumes. Usually needs a run but this is a suitable assignment and Pires is a positive jockey booking. Draws wide but is worth a betting watch.
RACE 7 - LINDRUM (7) stepped up to this trip and belted the CL1 graders by 3L from the front. Keeps the handy 2kg claim and he's capable of repeating the dose. VINTAGE DIESEL (3) improved over a mile last time and has a decent record over this distance. Has a handy 2kg claim and can get into the finish. NOBLE EXCEPTION (5) didn't get into it last time but was narrowly beaten in a 76 prior over this distance. Has an awkward barrier but the 2kg claim remains handy. COUP DE SPRY (2) mixed the form but his best would see him competitive.
