Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - CATCH CARTER (2) sat up on the speed last start and just faded late in what looks a strong maiden at Bunbury. Now gets the blinkers on first time and he should be on the speed from an inside alley again. Back in trip looks to suit and he can shed the maiden tag. FAMOUS DREAM (8) makes her debut today on the back of a couple of handy trials coming in. They caught the attention of Pike who rides today despite not partnering in her trials leading in. Sure to put her best foot forward on debut. RED AUTUMN (4) flashed home from the back of the pack in some slick sectionals to finish 2.3L off the winner. Suspect he may get back again with a tricky alley, though he did just miss at this track and trip in stronger grade two starts back. Key player. KIDDING ME (9) has shown good ability at the trials and can feature. LUCKY I AM (10) can run a bold race first-up.
RACE 2 - Tricky race with a number of these tackling this journey for the first time. AH KUM (10) led them up over a mile last start5 and kept kicking, beaten just 1.1L on the line. The rise in trip doesn't appear an issue and Parnham sticking is a good sign. Can be prominent in the run and prove tough to catch. AL UNIQUE (9) showed good improvement when up to 1500m last start and jumps right in trip today. Pike remains in the saddle and he mightn't be too far back today with the aid of a good draw. Fitter again now and can shed the maiden tag. LATE FLYER (3) ran home strongly over 2025m last start at Bunbury, beaten just 0.6L and is proven over this trip. CJP now hops in the saddle and if he can improve again, he'll take some beating. NEAP TIDE (15) was solid on the quick back up last start and now jumps right up in trip. Has plenty of upside and can feature. CHOICE THINKING (6) is racing well and won't be far away stepping up in trip.
RACE 3 - EARTHSTORM (13) contests the easiest race she's been in today. She was only 1.9L off the winner in a blanket finish first-up in Saturday grade and finished close behind WA's Champion 2YO Bustling in the Karrakatta last campaign. The wide draw is no issue as she's shown she can run on previously. Can get the job done today. HOUSEWIFE (16) jumped favourite 1000m on debut and disappointed on that occasion. She's again trialled well coming into this and Pike has been with her the whole way through. Maps well and can go close. THE AGENCY (6) found one better last start when first-up at Bunbury and he rates highly off that effort. He was placed second-up at this track and trip last campaign and he maps beautifully today. Can make his presence felt. TACTICS (5) has shown plenty of class in his career thus far and can feature if he gets some luck from the barrier. MAIN ACT (9) showed enough first-up and won't be far away.
RACE 4 - Happy to side with WREXHAM (10) on debut. He's been impressive at the trials coming in with Pike remaining in the saddle after partnering him in his most recent outing. The draw is a little niggle, though he looks to have plenty of class and he can make a winning start to his career. CHE FIGATA (5) ran on strongly first-up over 1000m and clocked some fast sectionals in the process. He'll need some luck from an outside alley again today, but if he can run up to what the sectionals showed us last start then he's expected to be right in the finish. ANABALLISTIC (15) may have had her trial form franked by now. She too draws an awkward barrier, but plenty of the exposed form in this race is only average. Can make an immediate impression. HEAVY METAL (11) closed off fairly last time out and will find this easier than her past couple of efforts. Watch for her flashing late. DUBAI'S DAUGHTER (2) is racing well this time in work and has to be included.
RACE 5 - PETITE VITESSE (4) was very impressive when running over the top to score by 0.6L over 1300m last start. Now out to the mile for the first time, though it looks to suit and the inside draw can see her sit much closer. Looks a progressive type who can notch up another victory. SNIPPY SEAN (5) got too far back over this trip at Ascot last start but did close off well to be just 1.2L off the winner at the finish. Where he gets to from the draw is a little niggle, though Parnham sticking with the gelding is a good sign. Sure to make his presence felt. THE ROOSTER (6) was only fair at Northam last start after racing wide throughout. Form out of that race has worked out well though and he'll strip fitter today. Expecting a much better effort this time. SMART SHADOW (7) found them too quick over the 1400m last start and will appreciate the rise in trip on the quick turnaround. KINGS SICARIO (2) can bounce back following a disappointing run last start.
RACE 6 - LORD RANDOLPH (8) steps out to this trip again today and gets Pike back in the saddle. That suggests he's ready to fire and he should find a nice spot from a good barrier. Ticking along nicely without winning but finds the right set up to improve now. LEAD BY EXAMPLE (5) stormed home from well back to just miss by 0.9L at Bunbury most recently. She's been competitive in strong races of late and starting right in the market of those too. May get back in the run but she's sure to be storming home late. MIRO (6) turned in a poor one at Ascot last start but can bounce back now out to this trip. She's been good over 2000m recently and Fiore rode her well two starts back. Can be handy in the run and improve sharply. MIRRORSCHINO (9) just missed last start at York and can feature if he can hold his form. CANDLELIGHT SHERIF (4) closed off well from the back of the pack last start and is not to be discounted.
RACE 7 - MAI ALOHA (9) was a very impressive winner at York last start when leading throughout and kicking clear to win by 1.7L. Pike remains in the saddle and although she's drawn wide, she has to speed to offset the alley. Pike sticks and if she can improve again, she'll take a stack of beating. MILLSTEE (6) comes through a strong form race 42 days ago where she was beaten 2.4L. Four winners have come out of that from 7 subsequent starters. While she is likely to get back from the draw, there is good speed engaged and it wouldn't surprise to see her running over the top of them late. FLAGSHIP (8) jumped favourite last start ad was too good when running away to win comfortably at York. Drawn well again today, he's likely to put himself on the speed and is expected to take plenty of catching. SOLAR SYSTEM (3) stormed home from the back last start and has claims. TALK TO WYN (2) looks an improving type and is worth including.
RACE 8 - CLOSE TALKER (5) resumed in top order when only 0.8L off the winner in this grade at Northam. The form out of that race has stacked up nicely and she has the ability to improve off the fresh effort. Drawn ideally again today and can go one better second-up. SHOW THE WAY (6) contested some handy 2YO races last season and has looked solid at the trials coming into this. He's got plenty of upside and should be just off the speed in running. Ran a solid figure first-up last campaign and a repeat of that effort will see him right in the finish. MAGNUM CLASS (1) is never far away and drops back to this trip today. He draws well and he rates highly on his recent figures. Knocking on the door of another win and today might be his day. LA DETTE (3) may be looking for further but the booking of Pike suggests she's ready to fire first-up. Sure to be strong late. ON THE FULL (7) just missed at Ascot last week and can go close on the quick turnaround.
