Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - AWEEMAWAY (2) just missed as favourite over 1200m last time out, beaten 0.3L in a strong effort. That rating stacks up highly in this event and the slight drop in trip shouldn't pose an issue. He maps to get every chance for Turner and a repeat of his latest effort would see him winning this. GREY REVOLUTION (9) finished behind Aweemaway last start but didn't have the best of luck when caught wide throughout the race. She did stick on well though and ZJP takes 2kgs off which comes in handy. Can finish much closer with some better luck today. SECRET STYLE (8) resumes without a trial but has performed well on the fresh side in stronger maidens previously. Still only lightly raced and this trip first-up looks ideal. The booking of Fiore suggests the new stable have her firing and she can put her best foot forward. GEORGE ON SKATES (6) looked good in his recent trial in readiness and is sure to put his best foot forward. FLASH INVADER (4) is better than he's shown of late and can improve.
RACE 2 - PIRATE'S ALLEY (9) faded out of the race at Belmont last start when out to 1650m and looks as though he'll appreciate the drop in grade. The wide draw doesn't hurt as he tends to get back anyway and if he can run up to his recent form for the new stable, he'll be hard to hold out. ABSOLUTE PLUM (6) was only fair as favourite here a fortnight ago when beaten 3.2L and dropping back to this journey appears to hold the key. Fiore hops back into the saddle and she ran well over this course and distance when sitting back in the field on July 14th. Can shed the maiden tag. ALOTTA FIGHTING (10) has been around the mark to begin his career, closing off well last start over 1200m. He was good over this track and trip two back and he maps for a nice run once more. Can make his presence felt. BIG PLAYER (1) is better than he showed last time out and can bounce back. I HAD A DREAM (8) showed good improvement last start and won't be far away once again.
RACE 3 - BRAZEN EMPRESS (7) just missed the hat-trick last start when beaten 0.2L over 1760m last time out. She rises to this trip for the first time but it doesn't appear an issue and she should get every chance from the draw. Hard to knock her recent form and can go a couple better this time. RYEWOOD (2) is another out to this trip for the first time following a strong effort from the back, beaten just 0.7L. Everything points to her running out the trip strongly and Faithfull is the strike jockey for Fernie. Can sit a touch closer this time and get the job done without surprising. THE CANDY KID (11) comes through the Belmont Classic where he was well beaten, though his form prior to that effort stacks up nicely in this field. He's likely to take up the running from a good alley and he'll take plenty of catching from the front. IT'S A LANCE (1) got the job done over 1760m last time out, beating some of the others in this event. He'll go close again. OLDEN (6) is next best.
RACE 4 - THE FINAL BELLE (7) ran over the top to win by 1.6L over the mile here a fortnight ago and she still has improvement to come being a lightly raced mare. She should get a lovely run for Fiore and while this is tougher, her last start rating is good enough for a race like this. Can go back-to-back. MORE THAN ENUFF (3) disappointed last time out at Belmont and should appreciate the easier company he'll face today. He's run on well from the back in his previous runs and figures prior to last start rate highly in this event. Can be flashing home late in the race. EDWARD'S CHOICE (1) sat on the speed and got the job done over 1400m here a fortnight ago after a narrow defeat over 1634m the start prior. The 3kg claim comes in handy and he's sure to be in the finish if he runs up to recent efforts. TAK GOES BOOM (10) is in the mix if he brings his best.
RACE 5 - DONT WAIT FOR LUCK (3) resumed over this course and distance last start and bolted in, running on from midfield to win by 2.2L. He has a number of ratings higher than what he produced last start and while the outside draw is a niggle, he does have improvement to come. Can bring up back-to-back wins. KHALIDA (4) just missed in a CL1 first-up over 1100m here a fortnight ago and she usually improves with a run under her belt. She has the speed to cross from the alley and with further improvement expected, she can go one better. AMERICAN THIGHS (8) found a couple too quick over 1100m last start after winning narrowly from in front over this course and distance two back. She's likely to be prominent in the run once again from the inside alley and she'll be hard to catch with the 3kg claim. FIENDISH (11) is building nicely this campaign and is not to be discounted.
RACE 6 - KINGS CALL (3) was only fair at Pinjarra last start when beaten 3.8L in Heavy going, with his runs prior much better than that. This is an easier race he'll tackle today and he was right in the market in those tougher events. He's clearly the one to beat. NOVATORIO (8) went close over 1100m here two back before a 2.6L defeat over 1400m last time out. He drops back to 1200m today where he's been unplaced in 3 attempts, though his ratings of recent efforts stack up nicely. Likely to be in the finish. WANNA CRACKER (1) pulled up lame over this course and distance 28 days ago when turning in a disappointing effort as favourite. Freshened and ready to go now, Cooper's 3kg claim comes in handy. Will be savaging the line from well back. ZING TO WIN (5) ran on well to score last start over 1100m and has claims. RULING DAME (6) is better than she's shown her past couple and can bounce back.
RACE 7 - UNCOMPROMISED (6) rattled home from a long way back last start to just miss by 0.7L over 1300m at this track. He boasts a strong second-up record and he's expected to be much closer in the run this time around. The booking of Faithfull is a good sign and he can return to winning ways. ABLOH (4) was in great form prior to a disappointing performance at Belmont 29 days ago, beaten a long way. His prior form stacks up well in an event like this and Fiore sticking isa positive sign. Now down to the bottom of the weights, he's in this up to his ears. IRRITABLE RODNEE (3) ran on strongly from well back over 1300m last start and looks as though the extra trip should suit. Drawn better this time, he may be able to take closer order and storm over the top late. DANCE OF THUNDER (7) beat home Irritable Rodnee last start and will carry no weight after the claim. Big chance. KICK A GOAL SON (2) is better than he showed last time out and is not to be discounted.
RACE 8 - NO WHISPERING (1) got the job done over 1200m last time out, running over the top to win by 0.5L. He is 0/2 at this course and distance, though he was only 1.9L off the winner two starts ago. His recent ratings stack up nicely and a repeat of his latest figures can see him winning again. HERE'S DREAMING (8) ran on strongly last start in an eye-catching effort and she's undefeated third-up in her career. While she is likely to get back again from the draw, the extra journey will help and she's sure to be finishing off strongly late in the race. ONEMOREFORLEO (6) was a little disappointing over further last time out and coming back to this trip seems ideal. He will need some luck from the wide alley, but he's proven at this course and distance and is sure to go close. CAPTAIN ROGERS (4) will appreciate the drop in trip and can bounce back.
