Flemington Race 4 – Poifect

Strong win by this filly who promised a bit in her maiden campaign, starting $3 at listed level at just her second outing when third before running in a pair of Group Twos, good in the latter. She resumed at Sale over 1200m and did enough but has gone to a new level here, sitting on a strong tempo set by race favourite Liberty State who dropped out (although did have EIPH). Nonetheless, Poifect was there to be beaten and proved too strong, promising more wins in the future.

Randwick Kensington Race 2 – Redbreast

Clearly the win of the day from this three-year-old filly who is on a Queensland Oaks path after a dominant display over 1400m here, leading throughout at a good gallop and putting a hole in her rivals to win by 4.6 lengths. The stable had always flagged her as a possible Oaks horse, whether that be Sydney or Brisbane, and the daughter of American Pharoah should only continue to improve over further. The time looks very good- 1.4 seconds faster than the older Bm72 horses over the same trip later in the card. Plenty to like.
