Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - RUNWITHTHETIDE (5) crossed the field to lead last start in a Class 3 over this trip at Ipswich before tiring in the run home. Fitter for two runs back from a spell and this is an easier assignment. Watch for a far better run. PIVOTAL LAD (8) began awkwardly and was never really a factor in the same race as Runwiththetide at Ipswich last time out. Was a month between runs on that occasion so he has scope for improvement. The winner of two from three over this course and distance - must be included at odds. NORTH OF ELI (20) also contested that Class 3 on Ipswich Cup day, travelling midfield all the way without threatening. Right in the mix with the aid of an inside alley. AITUTAKI (19) won first-up over this trip at Doomben before struggling over 1400m at the Gold Coast last time. Capable of a better effort back to six furlongs. Distance specialist BIG BOY GEORGE (9) is flying this prep and can play a role despite going up in class.
RACE 2 - A slow start proved costly for CASPERNOVA (7) when resuming last start in a Class 5 over 1110m at Doomben. Gets out to his pet distance today on a bigger track which suits. Will enjoy all the favours from gate one and looks set to add to his impressive record. The speedy PRE EMINENCE (6) made it two wins from his last three when he dominated a Class 3 over this trip at Ipswich a fortnight ago. That was a career high by quite some way so the question is whether he can reproduce - winning chance again if he does. KING YOSHI (5) lifted late to make it two on the trot recently over 1000m at this circuit. Takes on a better field today and is unproven at 1200m but he loves this circuit and cannot be underestimated. SULTRY SIREN (13) moves up to Saturday class but her recent form is difficult to fault. BEEBEE DAZZLER (9) is yet to miss the top three in five runs at today's journey. Very fit and should give a good account.
RACE 3 - PRESTAR (8) led all the way when resuming over this course and distance two runs back, demolishing his maiden rivals. Stepped out in the Listed Oxlade over 1200m last time and didn't measure up. Worth another chance back to 1000m in less imposing company. LUCKY LASS (15) led for home but found one better at the end of 1200m at Ipswich last start. Progressive filly who might prove tough to catch coming back to five furlongs. BETTERLUCKNEXTTIME (1) is back in class and been freshened up since failing in the Sires' Produce five weeks ago. Both his wins to date have come at today's trip so a return to form looks likely. EARN TO BURN (5) led but knocked up in the Oxlade last time. Worth another chance back in this more suitable assignment. CERTIFIED COPY (2) is dominating easier races and certainly deserves her chance in Saturday company.
RACE 4 - BELEGATO (3) ran a cracking race first up in the Listed Mick Dittman then franked that form with a tough win over 1110m at Doomben last start. Given a six-week reset since that run. Just needs a bit of luck from the wide draw to be right in the finish. OVERFULL (11) opened this prep with a game fourth in the Listed Denise's Joy at Scone before another cheeky effort at Rosehill last start. Rarely runs a bad race and this looks an ideal assignment. LEAD ME ON (12) came from the clouds to get up for third behind Belegato when returning from a year on the sidelines recently. Coming back in trip is a small question mark but if he can improve off that first-up effort this is certainly within reach. GIN A TONIC (4) continued his outstanding recent form when edged out over 1110m at Doomben last start. Definite contender with the help of the inside gate. Last start stakes winner COSMIC FIRE (1) has a few things against him today but his class will go a long way.
RACE 5 - ALL THAT PIZZAZZ (5) did his best work late to finish just outside the frame when resuming in the Listed Lightning over this distance at Eagle Farm first-up. Generally improves with that run under the belt so this looks a very winnable race. Stablemate NETTUNO (3) also contested the Lightning last start and was hard to miss, flashing home from near the tail to grab fourth. Three wins from four runs over 1000m at this track is a compelling stat. Big danger. STEADY READY (1) showed a ton of dash but knocked up late when resuming in the Lightning. Subsequent trial winner who has a terrific second-up record so expect him to offer far more resistance this time. VODKA MARTINI (2) is a genuine sprinter who beat many of today's chief rivals in the Lightning recently when resuming. Meets them poorly at the weights but another big run looks likely. SOUTH OF INDIA (4) led and gave a great sight first-up in the Bob Charley at Randwick. Progressive sprinter who can win without surprising.
RACE 6 - BEAU DAZZLER (1) has been tried as a stayer since finishing third when resuming in the Queensland Guineas over the mile. Struggled in the Rough Habit Plate and the Derby so the Sears stable switches him back in trip. Best figures give him a great chance in this at odds. MISTER BIANCO (2) stepped up to Saturday company and duly chalked up the hat trick at Ipswich last start. Yet to race beyond 1400m but on recent form he is hard to leave out. BOLLINGER MISS (14) turned in a real eye-catcher behind Mister Bianco over 1350m at Ipswich a fortnight ago when second-up from a spell. Very fit and looking for this trip now. The consistent APUNTAR (3) registered a black-type placing last time out in the Gunsynd over this distance. In the mix again. THE THREE HUNDRED (5) has disappointed of late but might be worth one more chance with the step up to a mile.
RACE 7 - WARNIE (4) was backed as though unbeatable in the Ipswich Eye Liner a fortnight ago but disappointed after looking to have his chance. A bigger track should suit so give him another chance in the feature sprint. GUMDROPS (9) battled on fairly but never really looked a chance in the Dane Ripper over 1300m two back. Looks in need of this trip now and with the light weight she makes plenty of appeal. FAR TOO EASY (1) chased War Machine home in the BTC Sprint two back then was poorly away and that was the end of the section in the Stradbroke last time. Has his share of weight but if things go right he is good enough to win a race like this. THE INFLICTOR (3) continued the fairytale for hobby trainer Craig Cousins by winning the Tattersalls Mile last Saturday. Yet to miss a cheque in five runs at this circuit. Great each-way option. OUGHTON (2) sprouted wings to win the Eye Liner at Ipswich last time. Should hold the form at just the fourth run of the prep.
RACE 8 - BEAR ON THE LOOSE (5) led and was in for the fight but couldn't hold off Sir Lucan in the Winter Cup over this distance at Rosehill last start. Like the engagement of Angela Jones who can nurse him in front and then kick away. Ready to win. Dour stayer DON DIEGO DE VEGA (10) has ground away to just miss the placings in his two runs this time in work, the latest in the 2400m Winter Cup. Should be near his peak now and looks a serious threat down in the weights. The lightly raced HALF YOURS (12) has been highly impressive all prep in Benchmark races in Sydney and Melbourne. Big test today but he should relish getting to this trip for the first time. Worth the gamble. HOPEFUL (7) showed a glimmer of form in the Winter Stakes last start. Three years without a win but looks like hitting some form again. NIKAU SPUR (2) is a chance if he replicates his third over this distance two back in the QE2 Cup at Eagle Farm.
RACE 9 - CASTILLIAN (6) has recorded a couple of big wins back-to-back, taking a sit two back at Doomben then leading from the outset at Ipswich a fortnight ago in a Class 6. In career best form and despite an awful gate he can get the job done again. RED DEFCON (14) has been tackling stakes races without success through the carnival. Capable performer at this level and she loves the Sunny Coast so a big form reversal is on the cards. DEEP RESPECT (12) was snagged back then wound up late to finish fourth behind Castillian at Ipswich recently. Can close the gap somewhat on this roomier circuit - shame about the wide gate though. NORTHERN DECREE (13) caught the eye in the closing stages when resuming over 1200m at Eagle Farm last weekend. Will be tough to hold out over an extra furlong. Distance specialist TOESONTHENOSE (7) will be better for the run but can sneak into the money while fresh.
