Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - Tricky race to assess with many of these facing the starter for the first time. Of the raced brigade STEFFI ELECTRICA (13) showed ability in her first preparation placing in both outings before being tipped out for time to furnish. Revved up for this with a couple of trial placings and has race experience over a lot of these. Looks very hard to toss. CHAMPAGNE LANE (4) is on debut but looked handy winning a recent trial in dominant fashion and is sure to be well-educated from the Hoysted barn. Can run a race first-up. CALL TO COURAGE (2) is another at the races for the first time but won a recent Gold Coast trial and Mallyon stays on top for race day. In the mix. GEITZ (14) has placed two from two over this distance range and is the most experienced runner in this field. Include in calculations. UNFAITHFUL (12) next in line.
RACE 2 - Another hard race to line up with a number of first starters. JAGGERY (6) has hit the top-four at his past four starts and looks to be nearing that elusive maiden victory. Has placed two from two around this circuit and will strip fitter second-up from the spell. Rates the testing material of those with exposed form. PRESTAR (16) didn't measure up in Group 3 company on debut before being sent out for time to mature. Is sure to find this assignment much easier and gets Maloney on from the low draw. Expect a bold showing while fresh. VAREJAO (13) has gotten better with each career outing and Wilson-Taylor sticks in the stirrups. Top-three aspirations. FIRST EMPIRE (4) is at the races for the first time but has been thereabouts in both trials and any market confidence must be noted. BENT BRIDGE (3) has placed over this track and trip and gets some weight relief with the claim. In the mix.
RACE 3 - ENHANCE (4) is unlucky to still be a maiden finishing runner-up in five of his past six starts and strikes a very winnable contest here. Will be ready to peak third-up from the spell and should be right there when the whips are cracking. PRIVATE EQUITY (11) just missed the placings when resuming and is sure to have come on with that run now under the belt. Respect from the Vandyke barn. EARN TO BURN (9) wasn't disgraced in Group 2 company when resuming and is sure to find this assignment much easier. Expect sharp improvement against this line-up. FRENCH EMPIRE (5) is first-up here but the form he showed in his first preparation was good enough to feature in a race like this. Can show up while fresh. TELL NO GOSSIP (7) has placed around this circuit and draws low. Worth including in multiples.
RACE 4 - TOREADOR (2) has been knocking on the door of a maiden victory with five consecutive runner-up finishes and this is not an overly strong affair. Placed over this mile journey at the latest effort and Thornton sticks from the favourable draw. Ticks plenty of boxes. PREFER TO DANCE (3) has hit the top-four in seven of eight career efforts and gets Melbourne Cup-winning hoop Dolan in the saddle. Can make his presence felt. BETTER DRAW (6) put in a career-best performance when resuming and may have turned the corner now. Top-three credentials. STROMBOLI DELIGHT (11) has placed at her past three efforts and may earn some minor money again. PEE BEE NOIR (13) rounds out the selections in a race with only a handful of chances.
RACE 5 - WANDA'S OUTLAW (2) loves this course and distance with two wins and a placing from just three attempts and will strip fitter second-up from the spell. Gets 2kg weight relief with the claim and should be right there at the business end. OUR TURN NOW (1) has hit a purple patch of form with a win and three seconds from his past four starts and has earned his shot at this level. Can continue the consistent run. KIND WISH (3) has won three from six around this circuit and will be rock-hard fit for this. Capable of testing this field. TAREX (6) has placed over this track and trip and should give backers a sight up on speed. MISTING (12) best of the rest from the astute stable.
RACE 6 - DEMON AWARD (11) saves his best form for this distance range with two wins and two placings from just five attempts and has been racing very consistently this time in work. Beriman has been in the irons for the last two placings and stays on top here. Should be going very close. LOST IN TRANSIT (3) has won two of his past three and is a four-time winner around this circuit. Can measure up again. TONNEOFGRIT (9) strips fitter third-up from the break, draws the inside marble and gets in well at the weights with the 2kg claim. Ticks a few boxes. ITZA CHARMDEEL (13) is a former Kiwi who is having his first run for the new stable. Respect any market confidence. Former Waterhouse/Bott galloper KAIZAD (7) should find this easier than what he faced down south and a strong showing while fresh would not surprise.
RACE 7 - ACCELAR (9) is a consistent commodity who has hit the top-five in all six starts to date and is one from one over this course and distance. Tuned up for this with two recent trial wins and is expected to play a major role while fresh. ZATANNA (5) is yet to miss a drum in three attempts over this sprint journey and gets plenty of weight relief with the 3kg claim. Can go back-to-back. OH NOT REALLY (7) broke the maiden status when resuming and is sure to have derived a stack of confidence from that victory. Has to be included in calculations. SCRIPTED (2) hasn't done much wrong winning both career efforts and looks to have plenty of upside. A must for the exotics players. SIX MORE SONGS (10) is a last-start winner who shouldn't be slept on.
RACE 8 - Open race to close out the card. The penny has dropped for ENCOURAGED (4) who has won two of three this campaign including one over this track and trip when resuming. Gets 2kg off with the claim and another strong performance would not shock. BREAK FREE (7) wasn't too far off them in Group 3 company before the spell and the two wins prior to start the career were full of merit. Cannot be discounted while fresh. KERNEL BOOM (15) saves his best form for this course and distance and will be ready to peak now fourth-up from the break. Top-three candidate. Former NSW galloper FOURTH SPARGO (3) is having her first run for the new stable but should find this easier than what she faced down south. Respect from the Freedman yard. The well-related BANK BOOK (12) (half to G2 winner Bank Maur) best of the rest.
