Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - MY HIDDEN UNIVERSE (3) was very impressive through his last campaign and showed he has above-average ability. He's been off the scene for 12 months, but his latest trial was very impressive and both fresh runs in his career have been awesome. Can pick up where he left off last campaign. MASAMUNE (2) was a good winner down the Pinjarra straight first-up but never got into the race over 1100m at Ascot most recently. Back to this trip is a big tick and he should be much closer in the run this time. Can bounce back to his best. EXPOROSE (8) will find this herder, but his recent form is hard to knock, making it a hat-trick at York 9 days ago. Drops in weight this time and she rates right up to the mark. Don't discount. WICKED VENOM (4) looks to appreciate dropping back in distance and won't be far away. COBBANCO (6) can play a role first-up on the back of a nice trial.
RACE 2 - FAT ROY SLIM (1) will have to carry the top weight again, but he almost did to victory last start when 0.9L off the winner. He's unbeaten over this course and distance and Pike remains in the saddle. Jumped favourite last start and can go one better this time. BAYHARA (4) led and kicked away to score in easier company over 2100m here last start and is on the quick turnaround. She drops in weight today and Ramoly has options from the draw. Going well and can repeat the dose. ZAZA ROCK (2) beat home Fat Roy Slim last start when sitting close to the speed and proving too good. She meets that rival worse at the weights now, but this shapes similarly and CJP sticks. Can go back-to-back without surprising. PURE CHINO (8) was solid in the Jericho Cup Qualifier and has figures good enough to feature over this distance. Right in the mix. ARNIE'S BOY (5) is better suited here but turned in a strong effort last time out. Can feature in the finish.
RACE 3 - SNIPPY SEAN (10) ran over the top to score over the Ascot Mile last start and continued to work his way through the grades. He's likely to be back in the run again under Pike, but he went to a new level last start and that doesn't seem his ceiling. Can go to another level again now. MOJO'S LUCK (7) was behind Snippy Sean last start when 2.7L away but looks ready to peak third-up now. He's a two-time winner fresh and Gaerth hops in the saddle now claiming 2kg. Been a while between wins, but He's getting back to his best figures and looks poised to strike. I'M NIPOTE (6) was very impressive at the start of the campaign but disappointed last start when favourite at Ascot, sitting last and never getting into the race. The in-form Fiore rides now and he was trending the right way prior. Can bounce back to his best. LATE ARRIVAL (3) looks a progressive type and can keep the winning streak alive.
RACE 4 - POND MASTER (3) got back to winning form last start at Ascot when running away to win comfortably by 1.3L in this grade. The step out to 1400m again is no issue and Pike remains in the saddle. Maps beautifully once again and can repeat the dose. KING HIT (5) got a long way back last start but flashed late to finish 2.2L off Pond Master. Fitter and further are both ticks for him and he'll sit much closer this time. Can strike in what looks a suitable race. SHOW THE WAY (6) has placed 2/3 fresh and has looked good at the trials coming into this. Can put his best foot forward. ELITE MISSILE (1) disappointed last start but started this campaign in good style. Form out of his last start has worked out well and he can bounce back now.
RACE 5 - The 2YO's take to the track now and TOO DARN STORMY (5) makes plenty of appeal on debut. He's shown positive signs at the trials coming into this and Pike sticks after being on board for both trials coming in. Showing plenty at the trials and can play a leading role on debut. PLAYIN'IT SWEET (7) trialled well heading into her debut and was strong there, beaten 0.9L as a $6 chance. Pike hops off now which is a niggle, but the in-form Fiore takes the ride. Form out of her last start has been solid and she can improve with the race experience under her belt. NONEOFYOURBUSINESS (15) won his only trial back in January before a break and was equally as good at his most recent outing at Lark Hill. The inside draw is a big tick for her and with Brad Parnham sticking form the trials, she'll go close. FARADIO (4) was a much-improved commodity in his latest trial and he can play a role.
RACE 6 - SIX SHOOTER (1) sat close to the speed last start at Pinjarra and shot away to score comfortably as favourite. The wide draw is a niggle this time, but the form has been franked from his last start and he still has plenty of upside. Can go on with the job and keep his unbeaten record here intact. AMJAAD (8) resumes today and is a long time between wins, though her recent trial suggests she's ready to fire. She's a winner first-up in the past and seems to take a liking to this course and distance. Steve Parnham on board is a big tick and she can play a major role. MANHATTAN STRIP (3) was a good winner first-up, getting over the top from midfield and the second horse has since come out and won. Pike remains in the saddle and there's no reason why he can't go on with the job. ABISSI (12) was good at her latest trial and showed enough in his last campaign. Still has upside and won't be far away. MORE THAN ENUFF (7) comes into this off a freshen and won't be far away.
RACE 7 - Time for the feature of the day and WESTERN EMPIRE (1) looks primed to bounce back. He was only fair in The Quokka, but won second-up last campaign and scored in this race last year. Will need some luck from out wide, but he's the class horse in the race and a return to his best will see him hard to hold out. THE BOSS LADY (12) was below her best last start at Northam but the track played a little funky there and her prior form was very good. Just missed in The Quokka prior to that and up to this trip is no issue. Looks to get a great run on the map and can go close. Feeling that YONGA LASS (16) is sneaking under the radar coming into this following two good efforts to start the campaign at big odds. She's won 2/4 third-up, she maps well and CJP remains in the saddle. Can cause an upset. WEST STAR (14) looks a very nice horse on the rise in WA. Needs some luck from out wide but can go back-to-back. MAGNIFICENT ANDY (4) goes well third-up and rates highly off his last start effort.
RACE 8 - A couple of impressive 3YO's hold the key with WIND AND THE LION (9) making the most appeal following a solid first-up effort. Just took a while to get through his gears over 1000m fresh and now up to this trip is ideal. Can go one better this time around in a suitable event. STORYVILLE (10) was superb through The Pinnacles last year and was tested in the Northerly to round out her campaign. She's trialled well coming in but the wide draw is a niggle. Hard to ignore her class though and she's expected to be flying home at the finish. STORMCHASER (5) won with a strong figure first-up over 1200m at Ascot and he's won 2/3 at this track and trip. Fitter now and the claim of Gaerth comes in handy. Right in the mix. TOROPA (12) is a classy customer and she'll appreciate the rise in trip. Loves Belmont and can get back to her best. ICE PICK NICK (3) can feature if he's at his best.
RACE 9 - ESPRIT GARCON (7) has gone off the boil since bursting onto the scene 12 months ago. He never got into the race last start after ending up well back, but the inside draw may force him to sit closer this time. Best form is good enough and a return to that level would see him right in the finish. DRAKAINA (16) was solid first-up at this trip first-up at Ascot and is a second-up winner in the past. She was solid in her first Australian campaign and she looks to be trending towards her best form. Likely to be back in the run but watch for her flying late in the race. KEEP ATTACKING (2) never got into the race fresh at Ascot and the stable have hit the reset button. McGruddy has a winning record when aboard and he maps to get every chance. Can put his best foot forward. AHYEAHRIGHTO (9) put up a strong figure when winning last start as favourite and has to be included again despite the wide alley. KEEP ITA MYSTERY (6) steps up in trip now which looks to suit and he can go close.
