Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - DITA VON (2) worked hard to find the front at Wagga last start and was only run down over the final stages, finishing fifth. She has a far better draw this time, and with a drop back from 1400m to 1200m, she is ideally placed to lead all the way this time. SUNDROP (5) missed the kick fresh up and settled last at Wagga before running on very late to snatch fourth place. She gets a nice swing in her draw this time, and only has to make an even beginning, to be hard to beat. Each way. DEFLECTOR (7) ran on along the fence at Wagga fresh up 18 days ago and will be improved by that hit-out. The extra furlong is the key here, and she should pick up her first win at short notice. COLOMBIANO (6) is resuming from a spell that would have done her the world of good. She has the aid of the pole position and is capable of a top 3 finish. EXTREMELY EXCITING (9) is heading the right way with her form and ran on late to finish third at Goulburn 3 weeks ago. She drops 3kg, so stick with her.
RACE 2 - MOMENTICE (8) finished runner-up by a head at Wodonga when resuming from a spell and then battled away in a stronger field at Wagga last time out. She is perfectly placed from a handy draw in this, and will be one of the hardest to beat. MAJESTIC MAREMMA (7) has needed both of her runs back from a spell and will have the benefit of a 2kg claim. She is likely to race on the pace and can figure in the top 3 this time. FILINE (6) has been mixing her form this year and will start from a handy gate here. This field is not strong, and she is one of many who can run into the money with the right sort of run. YAMATO (3) is resuming from a spell for a new trainer and has won a jumpout in April. Jason Lyon rides this track well, and the pair merits healthy respect. CHASING QUIVERS (4) did not do much in her initial prep, but did look a lot better in a recent trial. Watch closely.
RACE 3 - FLITGROVE (5) looks to have a fair bit of upside and was a tough winner by a neck at Kilmore 2 weeks ago. She drops down to 1000m and has 4kg less to carry, so looks well placed to repeat the dose. DANCEENUFF (1) will be peaking third up from a spell and has won his only start on this track. He has the pole position, and with a drop in grade, she is ready to put her best hoof forward. Stick with her. CHOICE WITNESS (3) made some solid progress earlier in the year and is resuming at a suitable level with a couple of jumpouts under her belt. She comes to hand quickly and is in the right stable, to make her presence felt fresh up. LOAFER (4) has been freshened up and has changed stables since her last start at Ballarat. She showed enough ability earlier in her career to suggest that she can be very competitive in this area. Use the market as your best guide. BARN ZEE (6) is resuming from a spell and has won 2 of her 4 starts fresh up in the past. She was second in a recent jumpout here.
RACE 4 - HOT ONE (9) won a trial before producing a brave effort for third fresh up at Kilmore 2 weeks ago, finishing only half a length from the winner. She has a superior gate this time, and with the blinkers on for the first time, she is the one to beat. SHEBRINGS BEAUTY (10) ended up getting too far back early on from a wide gate at Wagga over a mile last start and was doing her best work late that day. She has the pole position this time and will settle a lot closer to the pace. Don't risk her. Each way. FLUTTERBY (8) did not have all the luck when resuming from a spell and finishing sixth at Wangaratta 17 days ago. She strips fitter, and can finish a lot closer this time. Stick with her. PRIDE OF JEZZA (3) has been thereabouts in all 4 starts this year. Blaike McDougall is in form since relocating to this area, and the pair merits healthy respect. EXPLOSIVE GOLD (7) ran on late when having his first career start at Wodonga nearly 4 weeks ago. A kinder draw will help her here. Each way.
RACE 5 - ABSTRUSE (1) fought on gamely for second despite racing keenly when resuming from a spell at the Sapphire Coast and was then sent to town, finishing not too far off the winner at Randwick just over 3 weeks ago. She is perfectly placed in this company, and with the aid of a 1.5kg claim, she will be very hard to hold out. TYCOON ARTIE (4) showed a lot of courage when finishing third at Wagga last start. He was trapped wide that day off a wide draw, and can expect a softer trip this time from a superior gate. Hard to beat. PERFECTLY GOOD (2) won a trial before finishing second by a short-head at Wodonga fresh up nearly 4 weeks ago. He is having his second start for a new trainer, and can go one better. SHELLY'S ACE (8) has been running on in all of her 3 starts this prep. The extra 200m should suit, so stick with her. ACE OF LACE (10) has the advantge of the pole position, and is worth each-way consideration.
RACE 6 - LUCY LULU (6) was tried in front at Wagga last start and the change of tactics worked a treat when she fought off all challengers to post a gutsy win by a neck. She has to carry an extra 5kg here, but she will still be hard to peg back. SALUTE AGAIN (1) finished third as favourite in a Midway-class field at Randwick in his penultimate start and then left his run too late when finishing fifth at Wagga last time out. He cops a tough gate, but with some luck, and if the gaps come at the right time, he can take this out. Follow your money. STATESVILLE (7) will have no fitness concerns fourth up from a spell and is not the worst for some value to be added to all combinations. MENTALIA (8) stopped at Wangaratta last start but is better than that. Don't risk him. NATIVE LEAF (4) can mix his form and cops a tough draw here, but he is capable on his day at this level, and he is well worth a second look.
RACE 7 - WARPAINTED (6) has not been too far away in a couple of tougher fields at Wagga recently, and he has won his only start on this track. He cops a good draw, and a form reversal is expected. On top. TORN (2) can't be faulted with his form this year, and he was running on very strongly for second at Kilmore 2 weeks ago. He is nicely placed after a 4kg claim, and can have the last say in this. NEWYORK MISSILE (10) made the most of having a senior rider on last start and got the job done at Wagga by nearly a length. He cops a tough gate, but can figure in the top 3 again, just don't expect another fancy price. IMA GURU (14) has had a subtle gear change since his last run and he is stepping up to a mile. He meets an even field and can be one to spice up any combinations at a price. KERMA ART (9) has been a lot better in his last couple of starts and is back up to a mile. A good draw will help. Each way claims in this sort of field.
