Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - SAINTY CULLITY (1) drops right back in grade today after talking the Melvista Stakes most recently. He was 30-1 there, but the blinkers and tongue tie go on now as he drops right back in trip. This looks a suitable assignment off his first-up figure and he can get the job done this time. GINGER AND TONIC (2) has had plenty of spins now, though she is knocking on the door of a maiden victory. She bumped into a sharp one last start and that form may have been franked by now. Should land in a handy position and can land the knockout blow. DREAMSHOW (4) represents a winning chance off his latest trial coming into this. HARLEQUIN PRANCER (8) gets the blinkers on first time and is not to be discounted.
RACE 2 - ALMOST ARTIE (10) steps right up in distance now following a 4.2L defeat last start when never getting into the race. Now third-up and at her peak, she's open to plenty of improvement and that makes her an attractive commodity in what looks a suitable race. KUNAPIPI (8) was sound first-up behind a sharp winner on the Scarpside at Pinjarra and showed good improvement second-up last campaign. She'd trialled well coming into this campaign and this is much easier than what she tackled last start. Can shed the maiden tag. MYZOOM (7) was solid at big odds last start over 1300m and looks suited to the rise in trip. This looks a touch easier and with some luck on her side, she can make her presence felt. LAKEVIEW LIGHTNING (4) can make his own luck up on the speed and is not to be discounted. COSTA DEL DARLO (1) is worth including on debut.
RACE 3 - HEAVY METAL (1) looks read to return in good order judging by her recent trial coming into this. She's not short of class, having been beaten narrowly in stronger races than this on a number of occasions. Can get the job done this time and break her maiden. FAVOURED SON (4) just missed over this course and distance as favourite last time out, beaten in a photo finish when leading. Suspect similar tactics will be adopted this time off the inside barrier. He rates well off that latest effort and a repeat performance will see him right in the finish. STAR HOSTESS (8) resumes with three trials under the belt and maps for a lovely run from a good gate. She has plenty of upside and she'll give her rivals something to chase from the front. SAUCISSON (5) was solid last start but the fresh run here was better. Watch for him flashing late. SANSANEE (10) wasn't beaten far at Albany last start and is worth including third-up.
RACE 4 - JUST GIFTED (5) led them up on the Scarpside at Pinjarra last time out but was collared late, beaten 2.2L. The winner there looks very smart and she held her own up on the speed. Can do so again from barrier 2 and she'll take plenty of catching. ELSA'S PRIDE (3) is hard to knock on recent performances, just missing last start at this course and distance. She has enough early speed to offset the sticky draw and she'll give a bold sight from the front. HOT CHATTER (2) is expected to be thereabouts first-up. AKAI AKUMA (7) resumes. Was contesting far stronger races to this last campaign, almost placing in one of them at Belmont.
RACE 5 - EXPOROSE (8) was far too good on the Scarpside last start, running away to win by 1.3L after setting the tempo throughout. She looks well placed in this grade from a good draw and with little weight on her back. Just needs to run up to her latest figures to be winning again. CLASSIC RULER (4) wasn't disgraced last start despite what his finishing position says, beaten just 2.9L behind Exporose last time out. He gets a weight swing in his favour today and he should be getting towards his peak third-up. He looks the main danger. WORK HOME FRONT (6) can roll forward as she has done in recent events and will give her rivals something to chase. The 4kg claim of Riordan comes in handy and at peak fitness, she'll be tough to run down. TOP OF THE POPS (1) is in the mix on recent performances. PLAYBALL (3) is better than he showed first-up and will find this easier.
RACE 6 - JOLLY LACE (1) looks the one to beat in the Rose Of York following a dominant win over 1720m last time out. Dropping back in trip is no issue as she boasts a good record at this track and trip. She'll need some luck from the wide draw, but she just needs to replicate her last-start ratings to be winning again. MISTRESS OF WAR (6) sat up on the speed throughout last start and broke her maiden in good order at Albany. She can go on with the job now in this suitable event and the form out of her maiden win stacked up. She can make her presence felt. DELTA ANNE (9) is on the 9-day turnaround following a 1.9L defeat in Saturday company as a 200-1 pop. The barrier helps her chances and she can play a major role. CHEROKEE MISS (2) is well placed third-up and out to this distance and can be thereabouts. QUEEN'S SACRIFICE (3) can give a bold sight from up on the speed.
RACE 7 - PRETTY DEVINE (1) is better than she showed last start in a CL5 here, beaten 2.3L as favourite. She's right back in grade today and Webster's 4kg claim comes in handy. She can roll forward and if she's at her best, she'll be very hard to run down. COVENTRY REEF (2) will be fitter for a recent trial coming in and can be thereabouts at the finish. SABINO (9) is first-up today without a trial but he has placed a couple of times first-up in the past. The booking of Faithfull suggests he can run a bold race fresh and he can be there at the finish. Race falls away a bit thereafter. PRINCE OF BONDI (10) the best of the rest back to this level.
RACE 8 - MINE HOST (5) was far too good last start over 1900m here, winning by 2.9L in easier company most recently. Faithfull remains in the saddle and he maps to get a similar run this time around. Looks the one to beat if he can run up to his last start win. HEAPS OF MOOLAH (8) has gone under narrowly in recent efforts, finishing 1.2L off the winner over 1720m last time out. He went close over 1900m two back and has started in the market on both occasions. He's well placed to make his own luck up on the speed and will give a bold sight. WILLPOWER (6) drops back in trip and should find this easier than his last start where he was beaten a long way. He was good in his start prior over this track and trip and the inside barrier should see him get every chance. MY JIMMY (1) steps up to this trip for the first time and can play a major role. ADMIRED (7) is ticking along nicely without winning and has claims.
