Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - SUPER LAD (6) put in a bold performance last time out, charging forward early and refusing to give in, going down by less than a length over 1100m at Murray Bridge. Drawn wide again but if he finds the lead comfortably, they'll have to be good to run him down. EAGLE MOON (4) soared into contention at Naracoorte, sticking on gamely for second. Hes knocking on the door and is nearing a peak effort. TOFINO (7) closed off nicely into the frame at cricket-score odds when resuming at Murray Bridge. Is sure to have come on with that run under his belt and is among the key chances. MS HUBBLE (11) has caught they eye in both runs back, despite not threatening the winner. Strips fitter third-up and gets weight relief. Worth a second glance. SHAYKHLISLAMOVA (12) can improve quickly with blinkers on first time.
RACE 2 - CARASHAN CHLOE (4) went within a whisker of victory last time over 2200m at Balaklava and looks ready to go one better on the rapid turnaround. FIERY MOON (5) showed early dash to sit on the pace and stuck on well for third over the same trip, and with similar tactics here shes bound to give a strong sight. WYNDINTHEWILLOWS (12) is still searching for that elusive first win but hasnt been far away and brings enough form to suggest she can land in the money. MEIKA TATE (7) didnt have things go her way at Terang last start but has shown enough to be considered among the top four chances. SON OF VADAMOS (3) is worth looking out for charging late in the piece.
RACE 3 - JILLADORA (3) used the inside gate to full advantage last start, tracking the speed before pouncing and drawing clear for a smart win at Morphettville Parks. Hard to knock and shapes as the one to beat. QUIK RHAPID (5) wasnt far away when resuming at Naracoorte over 1200m, just getting reeled in late. Is yet to be tested over this journey but will roll forward again and give plenty of cheek. SAVSONIC (6) resumes shy of a preferred trip but has the class to make her presence felt. Should get a nice run with Crowther piloting from a low draw. MISS KERMIE (4) ran well here fresh then found the company a bit stiff in town second up when far from her best. Can bounce back with the right run. EMERALD REWARD (2) is a track and trip winner that also deserves consideration.
RACE 4 - FANCY SHOULDER (3) broke through in style over 1430m at Naracoorte with Felicity Atkinson aboard and she sticks for the ride which is always a good sign. With confidence on her side, she looks primed to go on with the job. SMASHING ACTION (6) also shed the maiden tag first up over 1100m and did it with authority. Lightly raced and still learning, shes got upside and can certainly measure up again. THE BIG WHEEL (2) didnt fire at Strathalbyn but was in the market off a strong fresh performance. Strips fitter and is expected to be a lot more competitive. JAPANESE EMPEROR (1) didnt get into the race when resuming but has room to improve second up as he strikes a more suitable distance range. Don't overlook. DANGEROUS SECRET (8) returns and has run well fresh without winning. Down in the weights and is in the mix.
RACE 5 - SUPREME THUNDER (6) came from the clouds to snatch victory over 1430m at Naracoorte and with that kind of closing speed hes right in the mix again if the tempo suits. OFF THE CUFF (13) doesn't win out of turn but went down narrowly last start and boasts a solid association with Tzaferis. With another honest effort shes a live chance. HASTA LA PRINCE (15) has been knocking on the door with three straight placings and looks well suited back in trip. Deserves a breakthrough and this could be it. COLLATED (3) didnt fire at Balaklava but had strong form prior and is capable of bouncing back in the right conditions. HEADSMART (10) drops back to a winning tip and doesn't lose much in the saddle with Milnes taking over. Don't dismiss.
RACE 6 - FREE BEER (8) has been in great touch, backing up a Mt Gambier win with a close second at Morphettville Parks and looks ready to strike again in this company. RAIN LORD (1) drops in grade after a solid effort in town. Will need a smart steer from the wide alley but Crowther is more than capable. Expect a strong showing. GUSTY WAY (15) is building nicely this prep and looks ready to peak after a gutsy second at Naracoorte. With Metcalfe back aboard, hes right in the frame. THE MAGISTRATE (2) has the early speed to give a sight and wont be far away when the whips are cracking. FOOTPRINTS (11) has struck a purple patch of form. Will find this tougher but deserves respect.
RACE 7 - Cracking edition of the Penola Cup. TEXAN WINDSTORM (2) is often overlooked by the market. Happy to overlook last start in a tricky five-horse field. Drops in grade and boasts strong peaks. Expect him to roll forward and take plenty of running down. ANY LUCK (7) is as honest as they come and while the margin was big last time, he continues to hit the frame and is drawn to get every chance again. IMPOSING SUSPECT (4) wasnt far off them last start and gets into a more suitable race. With a return to his best, he can make things interesting. ROYAL FOX (5) didnt replicate his win two back but wasnt disgraced in tougher company. Expect him to be more prominent this time. WEST CLIFF (6) will find this a fair bit tougher as he shoots for the hat-trick but can't knock winning form. Have to include.
RACE 8 - BIG MAV (1) powered home from the tail to grab second at Murray Bridge and with a strong record at this trip he shapes as the one to beat. BURNT BY BERNIE (3) went a miss last start at Naracoorte but his form prior stacks right up. Will need some luck from out there but has the ratings to put him in the finish. PINCHBECK (5) didnt fire first up as favourite but is much better than that and steps out over a more suitable distance. With fitness on his side and Milnes back aboard, hes a definite threat. TINY REBEL (6) is mixing his form but can be around the mark with the right run from a favourable draw. ROBERT THE PUSS (9) makes his stable debut for Kylie Schulz. May need the run but he deserves respect.
