Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - SKY DUKE (1) faded late last start over 1200m at this track following a bold effort over this course and distance two back. Back to 1000m looks a big tick for him and he can sit on the speed from a good gate. Gaerth's claim comes in handy and he'll be very hard to run down. SNIPPY WHICH (2) ended last campaign in poor style but his prior form was much better than that run suggested. His trial coming in was very good and the booking of Pike suggests he's ready to fire first-up. Can return on a winning note. OSCAR CHARLIE (4) got back to winning ways last start in emphatic fashion, bolting in by 55.5L in easier company at Narrogin. While this is harder, the ratings stack up from that effort and he can put himself into the finish. IF I DIN HAVADIME (6) is better than he showed last start and getting back to this trip looks ideal. Can bounce back.
RACE 2 - LUCKY I AM (7) just missed first-up and again bumped into one better last start on the Scarpside, beaten 0.7L when favourite. Steve Parnham rides now in a good push for his chances and the Bubble Cheeker should help him. Looks well placed in this event and can go one better this time around. HAIDA GWAII (9) was solid in her debut campaign and was tested in stronger company than this at the end of last campaign. She's been very impressive at the trials in readiness for this and Brad Parnham sticks from the recent outing. Can put his best foot forward. ROYAL DEFENSE (2) comes across from country NSW, but he's trialled well in readiness for his WA debut and he can go close off an inside barrier. GREY REVOLUTION (5) has claims third-up into the campaign with a senior jockey hopping on board.
RACE 3 - DARK OPAL (10) was solid from the back of the pack first-up down the Pinjarra straight, beaten 3.4L as a $13 chance. The rise in trip should suit her and she'll be better for the fresh effort. Can sit closer than she did last time out and secure her maiden victory. HELIOS AMIGOS (7) is on debut for the Andrew Masters barn. He's shown enough in those trials to suggest he can run a big race on debut and he can make an impression in his debut. COSTA STAR (9) dipped at the end of last campaign, though the form to begin last campaign was very good. CJP rides first-up in a good push for her chances and she is expected to be running on strongly from back in the ruck. BRIEF ROMANCE (14) is another on debut, this time for the Dan Morton barn. She's a half-sibling to the G1 winning stallion Portland Sky and multiple winner Above The Peg. Can start her career on a winning note. EARL IT IS (2) can put himself on the speed from the inside barrier and is not to be discounted.
RACE 4 - EXCEED THE PLANET (1) is still a maiden despite going under narrowly in the Fairetha Stakes at Listed Level last campaign. He came from nowhere to run big races in key 3YO Stakes races and now finds himself in a maiden. Trialled nicely coming in and can shed the maiden tag. GOD'LL GETYA (2) was solid first-up on the Scarpside at Pinjarra and just felt the pinch late. He'll be better for that run and he should be prominent from the draw once again. Back to 1200m is ideal and with the added fitness on his side, he can give a bold sight from the front. CANNYKEV (3) will need some luck from the wide draw but he comes through a stronger race first-up when only 1.7L off the winner. He can come on from the fresh effort and he's sure to be in the finish. BRED NOT BROUGHT (10) was solid last start at Pinjarra and can build on that effort. MA MA BELLE (8) gets the winkers on for her resumption and is not to be discounted.
RACE 5 - DE GRANDHOMME (3) was good in his only trial coming into this and showed enough in his debut campaign to suggest he has ability. Pike rides first-up and the Blinkers go on for his return. Drawn to get his chance and can land the knockout blow. MAGNIQUE (7) is another on resumption today with Lucy Fiore in the saddle. She won her only trial coming into this and was very close to a maiden win in her debut campaign. Can put her best foot forward on resumption. NICCIMOTA (8) bolted in when leading down the Pinjarra straight last start and has to be respected. MAGNACHINE (6) has trialled well coming into this and she should get her chance from an inside barrier.
RACE 6 - It's hard to ignore the win of TRUE BLUE BONDI (8) last start when sitting on the speed from a wide barrier and sprinting away to win easily. He put 4.1L on his rivals there at just start 2, indicating he has above-average ability. Can sit handy to the speed again today and bring up back-to-back wins. WEMBANYAMA (4) hasn't lost a yard since arriving in the Mack Hall stable and is on the cusp of a drought-breaking win. He remains at 1400m today which may be a little niggle, but he rates highly on his two runs back this time in and he's sure to be doing his best work late in the piece. PRINCESS IN RED (1) steps up to the 1400m journey again fourth-up into the campaign and she's a winner at this distance previously. Gaerth's claim comes in handy and she maps for a lovely run. Has to be included. I'M NIPOTE (5) can improve second-up and out in distance.
RACE 7 - MODELISTIC (2) stepped up to Saturday grade last start and never got into the race after settling at the back of the field. The form out of that race has worked out well though and she looks well placed back to this level. Drawn nicely for Brad Parnham and can return to winning ways. KEGGS LATER (6) was far too good over this trip on the Scarpside 9 days ago, running away to win by 2.6L. He's put up strong figures at his past two starts and while the draw is sticky, if he can hold his form today he should be right in the finish again. ZERA BLUE (13) has been winning in easier company but handled the rise in grade when behind Keggs Later most recently. While she is likely to be back in the run, her form is hard to knock and she can put herself in the finish. OCEAN RANGER (10) is better than he showed last time out when a beaten favourite and can bounce back to form. BIG SWOOP (3) comes through the Keggs Later race and has to be included.
RACE 8 - WATCH ME ROCK (2) keeps winning - albeit narrowly - as he got the nod in a photo finish in the Old Comrade Stakes here 13 days ago. Up to 1800m is the question, though he's placed at the trip previously. Visors replace the Blinkers and with Pike sticking, he can bring up the hat-trick. FLURO NEURO (4) does meet Watch Me Rock better at the weights this time around for that nose defeat last time out. Suspect he'll roll forward from the wide draw again and make his own luck. Untested at this trip but it could suit and he is the main danger once again. MEMORY PARADE (9) comes through the Old Comrade Stakes where she was only 1.7L off the winners. The inside barrier should see her in a handy position and with some wiggle room in her ratings, she can go close. DESENNEA (7) is better than what he showed last time out and he's a track and trip winner. Steve Parnham rides now and he can surprise. IOWA (3) will appreciate the rise in trip and won't be far away.
RACE 9 - THE SPRUIKER (3) just missed over 1400m last start at this track, running on from the back to finish 0.3L off the winner. That form stacks up in this event and he was off a 49-day break there. Fitter now and with improvement likely, he can go a couple better this time around. TOURETTO (4) just missed when back to 1400m last start, going under in a photo finish and he now gets the Blinkers on first time today. He maps for a similar run today with Pike riding again and he's expected to take beating once again. DUG ANOTHER HOLE (2) is hard to knock on recent form and he'll make his own luck up on the speed. Will be tough to run down. FORTUNE'S LUCK (8) will appreciate the rise in grade and won't be far away.
