Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - AMIZETTA (2) lived right up to market expectation last start at Sandown-Lakeside when making very light work of her rivals. Has relished stepping out to these staying trips and has more to offer. TAVINO BAY (8) gave backers a bold sight last start at Swan Hill, only to be reeled in late. Strips fitter and gets in low at the weights. Expecting him to roll forward again. GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS (5) has a moderate winning strike rate but is ticking along nicely. Is yet to be seen at this trip but expecting her to be in this for a long way. VEGAS KNIGHT (1) next best.
RACE 2 - Tricky race to assess. SALUTED (6) is an I Am Immortal filly on debut for Robbie Griffiths. Has impressed in her two jump outs and is drawn to get a gun run. Expected to make a bright start. PETIT ARTISTE (3) looks best of the raced bunch. Was a big improver last start at Sandown-Hillside when ridden with more vigour. Suspect they will look to go forward again and with a fitness edge she should prove tough to run down. MEISHO (2) returns after having three runs without success in her debut prep but did show promising signs. Looks to have come back in good order with two jumpout wins under her belt. Draws to get all the favours and is right in the mix. Cases can also be made for debutants ZOUROSA (7) and OPTIMAL MOMENTS (1). No shock to see them making their presence felt.
RACE 3 - Looking to runners who will be on speed giving themselves the best chance. DECLARED (11) was well supported here two weeks ago and gave backers a bold sight, before getting reeled in late. Will look to push forward again from the wide alley and with weight off his back he will prove tougher to catch. ZANTHRON (7) will also be looking to hunt across from out there and should be hitting his straps fourth-up. Another 3kg claimer replaces to get him well at the weights. Suspect we see the best version of him. Great each-way chance. VOLCANIC EXPRESS (8) left himself with far too much to do fresh before rattling home. Looks a very similar game plan. DEEPFLOAT DIVA (5) hasn't been seen publicly in readiness but shoulders his share of ability. Toeroek for the Jolly is always formidable. Respect late markets. EROICA (14) is another that will get back early and be doing her best work late. Can get the job done if close enough at the turn.
RACE 4 - SPIRIT OF CAMELOT (10) looked to have peaked on her run but found again late to make it interesting here last start. Peaking now and expecting her to relish the mile. Leading player. BRAVE STAR (1) is a tough, consistent gelding. Will need a smart steer from out there but benefits with Neindorf reuniting for this third-up assault. Don't take lightly. LONGER ROUTE (8) has been right there in his three runs back and should be hitting his straps now. Will burn across from the wide alley and be in this for a very long way. ANNIHILATE (11) doesn't win out of turn but is doing enough to deserve consideration. Inside alley helps his chances. HARD PRINCE (3) strips rock-hard fit and doesn't have to improve much to be getting involved.
RACE 5 - GALLANT SON (2) went to a new level last start when finishing quickly behind a highly touted Kiwi at Listed level. Backed up by the clock and has more to offer third-up. Hard to beat if he can reproduce. RESERVE BANK (1) is the obvious danger and comes through the superior races. Never looked likely last start in the G1 William Reid but did catch the eye down the straight fresh. Still figuring it out but is clearly talented. SIR NOW (3) had to dig deep but justified her short quote last start. Turns around quickly and gets weight off. Suspect he burns across from out there and gives a bold sight. KUROYANAGI (8) returns and is a tricky one to assess. Was G1-placed two preps ago in the Blue Diamond. Showed glimpses of going on with it last campaign but wasn't convincing enough. In this up to her ears if she's trained on. JUST LIKE GABY (10) was off her game last start but can add some juice to the exotics if back to her best.
RACE 6 - VERDAD (7) didn't appreciate the conditions last start at Moonee Valley but his win prior was one of note. Will relish getting back on top of the ground and won't know himself under the lightweight. Bold showing anticipated. The ex-Singaporean BAKEEL (8) has been a sensation since arriving in Australia. Has justified the short quote in all three starts and the form around him is stacking up everywhere you look. Testing material now. AIR ASSAULT (1) is a tough gelding that doesn't know how to turn in a poor showing. Sure to push forward from his gate and give his rivals something to catch. HELLSING (13) wasn't as effective last start but was an eye-catcher the start prior. Peaking now and is among the chances. A SAMURAI MIND (15) has come back in good order and is drawn to get the gun run. Loves it here and should be sharpened by the blinkers going on. Holds appeal.
RACE 7 - The addition of ASFOORA (7) makes this so interesting! Hasn't raced in AUS for over a year but put her name up in lights in the UK last prep by winning the G1 King Charles III. At her best she would blow them away but with bigger targets in store, she'll be far from screwed down. AVIATRESS (9) toyed with them first-up in the LR Matrice Stakes and is the obvious danger. Draws to get all the favours and is backed by the formidable partnership of Toeroek for R & C Jolly. Sure to take a great account of herself. CLIMBING STAR (8) returns. Tackled quality fields last prep and was from disgraced. Only seen the 1100m once and it was in this exact race last year when beaten a long neck. Holds serious appeal at longer odds. PRAIRIE FLOWER (10) has progressed through her grades nicely this campaign and is an exciting mare. Is a distance specialist who deserves her chance for more black type success. SGHIRRIPA (1) has been off the mark so far this prep but finds a more suitable race. Keep safe.
RACE 8 - Cracking race. CINCH (3) lived right up to market expectation in the Tasmanian Oaks back in February when putting 3L to her nearest rival. Freshened with 50 days, identical set-up to last year's winner Wings Of Song. Hard to ignore. COMANCHE MISS (1) was given a perfect steer by Neindorf to take out the LR Clare Lindop Stakes two weeks ago. Will find it tougher from the draw but suspect she will relish the rise in trip. With a touch of luck she can repeat the dose. PHENOM (8) brings strong formlines. Has progressed nicely this campaign and is sure to be sent forward from the gate. Expect her to be in this for a very long way. HORIZONS (16) has been crying out for a longer trip. Still think she wants further but brings nice form and looks a bolter. NAVY HEART (10) has also been closing off nicely over shorter trips. Suspect she settles closer now and can run a big race.
RACE 9 - ATHANATOS (1) made light work of his rivals last start at Flemington over the mile in the Vobis Guineas Sires. Was strong at the end, suggesting the rise in trip won't worry. Can go on with the job now CONCHIERO (2) has a stack of early speed and will be looking to quickly offset the draw. It may look a sharp rise in grade but the form around him has been stacking right up. Expect him to prove hard to reel in. DUBAI FOCUS (3) represents the home defence. Has progressed nicely this campaign and gets a nice pull at the weights from a favourable draw. This is the testing material but confident he can step up to the plate. DARKNCONFIDENTIAL (5) had DF's measure last start but rounded him up. Meets him worse at the weights but will appreciate the added trip. TAUNG (12) and GEEMES (14) are two at much longer odds who can add some great juice for exotic players.
