Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - COACHMAN (3) put in a plain one at Townsville but wasn't beaten far there prior. He rates well, and Wiggins is a key jockey switch. Peaks back to a shorter sprint and gets his chance. SWEET CANDY (7) is a former NSW galloper who went close at Mareeba first up. Maps for a soft run, and fitter, she's a genuine threat. A gap then to HITCHEDINMANHATTAN (5), who resumes and has pieces of that would see her get some on the minor cash. Stablemate DON'TLEAVEMENOW (6) has been off the scene for a long while, but can fill out the first four.
RACE 2 - Wiggins goes aboard BLEDISLOE (3), who is third-up and ready to win. He went well at Townsville 6 days ago, and the tongue tie goes on for the first time. Wins at his best. GLAD RAG DOLL (5) just missed at Mackay, having her second start for the Hatch barn. She's a live hope with the in-form Morrison replacing the 3kg apprentice. SHE'S A MISSION (6) went close at Townsville and Innisfail following. She's ready to win and is on a quick backup. PARVULUS (4) peaks off a near miss here, and that stacks right up. Maps well and also has claims.
RACE 3 - Competitive. STADIUM OF LIGHT (2) has been heavily supported, beaten a whisker at Townsville before winning there in this grade the latest. Comes back 209m and a 3kg claimer is engaged today. Peaks and can go on with it. BABY GUINNESS (5) made sharp improvement when beaten 2.6L at Townsville in a 60. That stacks right up and she has weight relief. Winning claims. Ditto TRODAIRE (4), who brings a Townsville placing in stronger. Wiggins rides, and that's a push. SPIRIT MEISTER (1) peaks and went close last time. He will be around the mark.
RACE 4 - LEAN EAGLE (4) has been nudged out at Townsville at both starts this preparation, and Wiggins is reunited in a key switch. He's an improved galloper and can go one better. ELLIE'S DREAM (5) was quickly back on track, winning a 55 comfortably at Townsville from the front. That stacks up, and he will get every chance to go on. CITY OF BOULDER (6) is third-up and would be in the finish, finding her best. Gives away starts, so the small field will suit.
RACE 5 - Competitive. GO GETABOY (1) threatened twice at Townsville but disappointed here last time. He draws inside today and will get every chance to run out the 1400m. Wiggins sticking in the saddle is a positive. HERNE HILL (6) brings a string of wins, and the last two stack right up. He's capable of winning again. STRATHCONA (4) lost his rider but bounced straight back, winning a 72 at Townsville. Has plenty of weight relief and comes back 209m freshened. Has claims. GULF OF LION (2) is on the improve again and the speedy galloper will be in it for a long way.
RACE 6 - CHIROGRAPHY (3) went back-to-back, winning a 55 here and then found the grade a bit rich at Townsville. This suits her much better, and she can get back on track. MAJESTIC BLAZE (6) improved again, winning a Townsville Maiden and expect that to stack up. The longer sprint should be right up her alley. ARGUABLE (2) won this grade at Townsville at big odds and will be better for it. Will be in the finish holding that form. HANGIN' AROUND (1) has a key jockey switch to Wiggins and would be a hope forgiving the latest effort.
RACE 7 - ALMIGHTY JAB (5) was an easy Maiden winner here over a short sprint and then raced a short-priced favourite at Townsville, beaten 1.6L. He was stepping up to this trip, and with Wiggins sticking, he has a decent chance to bounce. TSUNAMI (3) is a leader who belted the Townsville Maidens by 4L. The money came again there after in an Open 3, and he didn't get warm (vet cleared). This is winnable, and briefly freshened, he deserves another chance. TRAVELLING SWEET (10) was quickly back to form, narrowly beaten at Mareeba. Has weight relief, and the in-form Morrison remains aboard. Maps well and can't be ruled out. LOOMING ONE (4) will push forward and can build on the tidy Townsville Maiden win.
RACE 8 - LADY DAMUS (5) resumed with a 65 win at Townsville and is back on track. She's been kept on the fresh side, and x2 winning rider Wiggins is reunited. Carries more weight, but fitter can go on with the job. CATALINA DREAMING (7) improved again, winning a 55 here, and that reads well. She will use the inside gate and has some weight relief. KITEMA (1) seeks the hat-trick off comfortable wins at the non-totes. He's fast and has a handy 3kg claimer aboard today. He's sure to give a sight on the quick back up. GREY POWER (8) finished ahead of the above last time and gets in light. She deserves consideration as well.
