Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - KING SPIRIT (1) deserved the Maiden win at the Gold Coast and then wasn't too far away in a 70 at Eagle Farm. This is levels easier and he has a handy 2kg claim. Has his first go on the all-weather, but he's capable of using the rail and rates hard to beat. AQUATIER (4) resumes and will be right in it if presented on song. She's been racing in stronger and a 2kg claimer engaged. She won her Maiden comfortably on the Gold Coast poly track. HACKING (5) led and was a big Maiden winner at Lismore first up, backed off the map. She's won a trial since, and looks capable of taking the next step. SOUL BROTHER (7) is also lightly raced and heading in the right direction.
RACE 2 - DENUTO (6) was okay at Newcastle on debut and then was on pace and just missed at Grafton over this distance. Draws low and will likely control the race. Ready to win. WARNA (7) missed a whisker at Rockhampton rating positively, but didn't manage the wide gate here following on the turf. Better suited today, and she has the inside gate. COME MIDNIGHT (3) debuts for the sharp Vandyke yard and has to be kept very safe. Owns Deagon trial win, and is probably good enough to clear the outside barrier. IN SOCIETY (8) gives away starts, but just missed at Doomben two back. Comes back to the sprint and gets in light with the 3kg claim.
RACE 3 - NOTACLUEHOWORWHO (4) found one better at Ipswich and it was a good effort off a wide gate. Peaks and the 2kg claim is handy. The one to beat following a few key scratchings. TOKYO BANDIT (5) drops back to a sprint and gets in well with a 3kg claim. He will be around the mark, freshened. IRON POWE (6) has been around the mark of late and gets his chance in this line up. COOL MUSIC (7) the best of the rest.
RACE 4 - RIDEAU (1) races forward and has threatened his last two. Finds easier than last time on the turf here, and this is winnable with average luck in the run. MR CALEB (4) peaks and is better than the form line suggests. Finds a touch easier, drawn to advantage, and like the above, the local will be familiar with the poly surface. JUNGLE FEVER (3) was plain last time but was a comfortable Ipswich winner prior. Draws low today and keeps the handy 3kg claim. His form on the Gold Coast poly is sharp. SURREAL I AM (5) a big watch fresh in his return.
RACE 5 - Tricky. MILESTONE (7) resumes for the Healy yard off a near miss at Ipswitch. She's trialled well and will have come on. Runs along and looks suited. PRONTO PERCY (9) found Doomben too tough last time but impressed placing on the turf here on debut. Maps well and fitter, a much better effort is on the cards. TAYLOR'S RAGE (12) was spelled immediately after his Ipswich Maiden win on debut. Has an awkward gate but is sure to have come on. ANGEL'S TRUMPET (6) is third-up and finally draws a low barrier. A better effort is likely.
RACE 6 - A good contest. KETTLEBELL (10) was an easy Maiden winner here on the turf and followed with a 2L defeat at Eagle Farm after an awkward start. Fitter again and will be hard to beat. SPRING BIRD (9) just missed here first up on the course proper, and that stacks right up. Has the speed to clear the wide gate and should go close. Stablemate SPELLHOUND (4) went close on the turf track on debut as favourite, and fitter is a hope with average luck in the run. PROUD MISS (7) caught the eye late on debut and is a big watch fresh in her return.
RACE 7 - MIO SORRENTO (2) comes back to the poly and is busting to win. Gets in well in easier with the 3kg claimer up and he flies on this track. IPHIMEDIA (7) peaks and was only beaten 1L at the Gold Coast two back. The local has his first go on the all-weather and with average luck can get into the finish. DARE TO SHARE (1) is also fourth up and has been racing in better class. The 2kg claim is handy and she'd be a hope putting his best foot forward. CURRY LEGEND (5) disappointed last start but is better than that and clearly worth another chance.
RACE 8 - Tough. TIGON PRINCESS (6) has been racing in stronger races and is good enough to win this contest. He is in good hands and is likely to position forward. FLY FIFER (5) continues to race well and will push forward and contest the lead. She also gets her chance in an even affair. CHANGE THE DEEL (7) has a wide gate but is going well enough and is on a quick backup. PORKY (1) is proven third-up and has plenty up his sleeve. Maps well and has to be kept onside.
