Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - SMART ARTIE (2) just missed again here 7 days ago, and the in-form Darmanin goes aboard today. He has to run out the extra 200m, but is worth another chance. BOHO STYLE (5) was beaten a whisker at Hobart stepping up to this distance. Keeps a 3kg claim and is back after 5 days, so she must be pleasing. The danger. RIPPEN GOLD (1) resumes with Pires booked. He's been hard to catch but has some ability. DAD SAID YES (3) brings two placings but has been well beaten. Has a 3kg claimer aboard today and may get closer.
RACE 2 - GEE GEES ME BOY (2) was plainer here 7 days ago, but had been busting to win. Has a jockey switch today, and this grade suits better. He should go close. NO ACCESS (6) turned his form around, winning in this grade on the same day. Matched his Victorian best and may go on with it now. POWER MAGNUM (10) led and missed a nose behind the abpoove in a return to form. Has an inside gate and keeps the 3kg claim. Gets the chance to go one better. RING OF HONOUR (7) has been threatening on the synthetic. He'd have a hope bringing that form to the turf.
RACE 3 - ZUNI (8) has been close-up here at her last two. She will use an inside barrier and keeps the handy 3kg claim. Is left the one to beat. THE RUBICK'S AFFAIR (7) was expected to go well first-up but looked a run short. Has the outside barrier, but fitter she has claims. ADA WAY (2) returns to the turf with the tongue tie applied for the first time. Has the rail and 3kg claim and could surprise. PEAK A BOOM (5) made up a stack of ground winning a Maiden, but it was just an even effort following. A better effort is likely.
RACE 4 - TAROONA (6) missed a whisker here fourth-up and keeps improving. He wasn't beaten far in Stakes grade on debut, and she sets a decent standard here. CELESTIAL GLOW (5) will use the inside barrier and went close here last time. Peaks, and she is the quinella. BRIGHT NIGHT (3) will be fitter, but needs to find more to be winning. CAN'T CATCH CHILLI (4) will be fitter but also needs to find plenty.
RACE 5 - A good race. TURK WARRIOR (1) went close in a Quality and then deserved the win here in this grade. Keeps a handy and always puts in. He can go on with the job. GEEGEE JET BY (4) was narrowly beaten behind the above and will be better for the outing. Races forward, and the in-form Darmanin goes on. A threat. GALENUS (2) was beaten 1.2L in the same contest and will also be fitter. He can't be ruled out. WARICA (6) brings different formlines and will carry just 51kg with the claim. In the mix.
RACE 6 - HURRICANE KETUT (1) seeks the hat-trick off easy wins here over the trip. He can sit closer today and a senior hoop goes on. Tough to beat. KABOOM KABOOM (3) disappointed as a $2.90 favourite in the same contest. She just missed prior, and supporters will be giving her another chance. AGNETE (2) won this grade on the synthetic, dropping back to a sprint. She has comparable turf figures and has won over a mile. In the mix. RALPH THE ROCKET (5) is third-up and ready to show more. He has a positive record this track/distance and will be around the mark.
RACE 7 - ASHFALL (1) was quickly back in the winners' stall, winning a 68 heavily bet over a mile. He won his only start over a middle distance and benefits from Bingley's 3kg claim. He can go on with it. MONTEZULU (4) found a Quality a bit much over a staying trip, but rates well on the 1L defeat this track/trip prior. He gets in light with a 3kg claimer booked, and is a winning chance. Ditto GOLDEN PROPHET (3) who tacked this distance second-up, beaten a half length in a 60. That stacks up, and he also gets in well with a 3kg claim. ES AND ES (2) improved again, winning a 64 on the synthetic over 1880m. He races forward and is in the mix.
RACE 8 - Just three going around. PEROLA (2) came off a tidy effort in a Group 3 and was beaten a nose this track/trip. Carries a feather again with the 3kg claim and she's the one they have to beat. JAGUAR STONE (1) went close in the Group 3 and then finished a neck behind the above last time. The 3kg claim brings her right into it. RIGOLETTO (5) is racing well, but while this is harder, he tumbles in weight. On a quick backup.
