Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - STRIKING FELLA (4) just missed in a good race at Bunbury most recently where he was right in the market. He has enough speed to offset the tricky barrier and Chris Parnham remains in the saddle. Building nicely this campaign and finds a nice race to get the job done. OCEAN RANGER (6) never got into the race two back before a solid effort at Bunbury most recently, beaten just 0.9L. He steps out in trip again but that shouldn't matter, and he drops plenty of weight today. Ticks plenty of boxes and should get his chance. BOYZ LITE UP (5) won well two back before dropping back to this trip and never looking likely. That was a much stronger event than this however and he is very well placed in this. Can bounce back to winning ways without surprising. ATLANTIS BEACH (1) may appreciate the rise in trip now and he can be in the finish from a good draw. ROCK DEE JAY (8) should be nearing his top now third-up and has claims.
RACE 2 - CAPORETTO (4) got the job done in this grade last start at this track and trip when turning in a strong on-pace effort. Chris Parnham remains in the saddle and he maps for a similar run this time around. Still improving through the grades and he can bring up back-to-back wins. COMIC HERO (1) wasn't disgraced in a Saturday race 63 days ago when bumping into the speedy Norich. This is the easiest race he's seen for a while and while he is likely to get back in the run, he would just need to replicate his fresh effort last campaign to go close to winning. CENTRE BOND (5) is another progressive type on resumption today following a nice trial recently. He was good fresh last campaign as favourite and he still has upside. Can play a major role. CAVALLO RED (2) was good fresh in a stronger race and he has to be included. KING ADVISO (3) almost held on for the win fresh and should be fitter now. Can go one better without surprising.
RACE 3 - WANT A WINNER (5) is a 3YO colt on resumption after nearly a year off the scene. He has trialled three times since his latest run but hasn't seen a raceday, with his promise on show in those public outings. Chris Parnham sticks from the recent trial and he can show what he's capable of. KEEP ITA MYSTERY (1) was building nicely last campaign before trying his hand in the Placid Ark. He has been freshened since then and he returns to this grade where he's been successful previously. Draws to get every chance and should make his presence felt. SNOW GOD (7) mowed down the winner on debut in impressive fashion as the $2.70 favourite. He gets the visors on first time today and the form out of his last start has already been franked. Can sit on the speed and prove tough to run down. CLEANEMUP (2) is showing promise and brings some strong form into the race. Key player. THE TOP BAR (3) is better than he showed to end last campaign and can return in good order.
RACE 4 - SLIP THE JAB (10) is a colt on debut for the Luke Fernie barn that showed plenty of ability at his only public appearance on January 20. He's drawn out today, but he showed plenty of speed in that outing. Looks a nice horse on the rise and he can make an immediate impact. Stablemate CAPITOLA (2) has the race experience on his side and also won a trial sharply at Belmont recently. He's drawn to get every chance for Parnham who sticks from the trials. Trial was slower than Slip The Jab's but he should get every chance from the barrier. DO I FEEL LUCKY (1) bolted in 28 days ago when sitting on the speed and running away to win by 2L. The outside draw is a niggle this time, though CJP hopping in the saddle is a key switch. Likely to play a major role once again. STRIDEAWAY (3) was good at the trials coming in and won't be far away from a nice barrier. ABERDEEN FLYER (5) gets the blinkers on now and can improve.
RACE 5 - OUR ROCKY BAY (3) won well two back at Pinjarra and wasn't disgraced 28 days ago over this course and distance when a beaten favourite. Form out of that race stacked up nicely and he has good early speed. Can get back to winning ways now. PLAYING GAMES (7) stuck on well to be 1.5L off the winner here 28 days ago and now drops back to the 1200m journey. She is likely to get back in the run, though she rates highly on her recent efforts and she can put her best foot forward. ROCKET JUICE (9) beat home Our Rocky Bay two back before dropping in trip and sticking on well over 1000m last time out. Now third-up and out to 1200m, he maps for a lovely run and can bounce back to winning ways. CAPRICORN MAN (1) was too good last start over 1000m and stepping out in trip is a good move. Can play a role. CESSATION (8) is building nicely this time in work and is worth including.
RACE 6 - ROCKING SOCIETY (2) is an improving type, stringing three on-end before a 1.7L defeat most recently. He jumped favourite in that event and he rates highly on that effort. This looks a nice race for him and if he can hold his form, he'll take beating. STORMAGEDDON (7) stepped up to 2100m last start and just missed, finishing 0.4L off the winner and ahead of Rocking Society. The inside barrier is a big tick and CJP remains in the saddle. Should get every chance to land the prize. WEERAECHOUX (4) exploded when he got over more ground last campaign and he now gets that third-up this campaign. He should settle closer from a good gate this time and his 3YO form rates highly. Expecting him to be right in the finish. FLASH PADDY (8) showed good improvement out to this trip last start and is expected to be thereabouts. ALASKAN (5) is usually about the finish, though he's had plenty of chances to knock a race like this off.
RACE 7 - LOST CITY (4) was strong in her only run last campaign when 1.8L off the winner. The form out of that race worked out well and her recent trial was very good. CJP hops in the saddle first-up and she looks well placed to resume on a winning note. AT YOUR SERVICE (10) is knocking on the door of another victory after back-to-back 0.9L defeats, the latest over 21200m here. She drops plenty of weight today and there's been two winners out of her last start effort. She looks well placed in this ad she can make her presence felt. RAPID ROCK (6) is going well this campaign despite finishing 3.1L off the winner most recently. O'Donnell replaces the apprentice hoop today though and he draws a better barrier. Ticks a few boxes and can put his best foot forward. BEST MOOD (3) turned in a nice trial in readiness for this and Parnham hops in the saddle. Can be thereabouts. THIS'LL SHOW YA (9) is racing well and has to be included.
RACE 8 - PRINCE OF SANTOS (7) ran away to win impressively over 1400m at Pinjarra, scoring by 2.4L as favourite. Form out of the race hasn't been great, though he's a progressive type and he's still lightly raced. Looks a nice horse on the way up and he can bring up back-to-back wins. SKYTALKER (5) bounced back last start when only 1.4L over 1400m here most recently when running on from the back. This is a tougher race, but he drops plenty of weight and he rates highly on that latest effort. Should be at his peak now and he can play a major role. ON PATROL (4) disappointed last time out after a good effort in this grade two back. The draw is a touch tricky, but he's out to this trip for the first time and he's sure to be in the finish. HIGH COMMISSION (9) was scratched from other races to line up here after a long layoff. CJP rides in a good push for his chances. Worth keeping an eye on. BOAB BOY (1) can improve on a solid first-up effort.
RACE 9 - ANGEL UNDERCOVER (7) ran over the top to score impressively 21 days ago, winning by 0.8L in a good race. The form out of that has been solid and she has a good third-up record. She remains down in the weights and the rise in trip looks to suit. Working through the grades nicely and can win again. HOSTILE TALK (8) is looking for the hat-trick after a 1.5L victory here in easier company last time out. He's another working through the grades nicely and CJP sticks with him. Can improve again now and should go close. KINGS SALUTE (10) can sit close to the speed and will take beating with added fitness and a positive race pattern. BRUCE ALMIGHTY (1) is another who can make give a sight from up on the speed. BENJI'S (2) hasn't been far away lately and can be in the finish once again.
RACE 10 - The feature of the day now and RUSSIAN TO THE BAR (4) can turn the tables this time around. He closed off strongly from a long way back last start when only 0.8L off the winner and he meets them better at the weights this time out. Parnham sticks and he can return to winning ways in this suitable race. BONJOY (3) beat a lot of these home last start on Australia Day when closing over the top to score. She keeps raising the bar and she's won 3/4 over the Ascot mile previously. Hard to knock on form and she can win again. ANTIQUE MISS (7) won the La Trice over 1800m two back before dropping in trip last start and being caught wide and without cover most recently. She drops in weight today though and the slight rise in trip should help. Maps for a better run this time and can improve. SENSESSIONAL (6) was a strong winner last start and he continues to work through the grades. Drawn well and can go close. OWN THE QUEEN (9) won't be far away from a favourable alley.
RACE 11 - SIBERIAN SIREN (7) resumes today on the back of a couple of nice trials leading into this. Chris Parnham hops back in the saddle for her fresh effort and she looks a nice horse working through the grades. She was a fresh winner last campaign and this looks a nice race for her. GOLDEN VALE (8) is a 3YO taking on the older horses today, but she is well performed against her own age. Narrowly beaten in the Placid Ark two back before a solid effort last start off a 63-day break. Brad Parnham, rides now and she can turn in a very strong effort. SONOFTHEBOSS (2) is usually around the mark and he's run some very good races of late. He should put himself on the speed from a nice barrier and Gaerth's 2kg claim will come in handy. He'll take some catching. CANNY ROCK (11) is a winner third-up in the past and he draws a much better gate this time. Drops in weight and won't be far away. TRIO (10) can run a strong race first-up with CJP in the saddle.
