Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - UNITED STATES (6) is a colt by Snitzel out of Warranty on debut for the Waller yard. Looked to have more to offer when third in a 900m trial at Rosehill on January 7. Lugging bit goes on and gets all the favours from the low gate. BEIWACHT (2) ready made colt by Bivouac from Metastasio having his first start for the James Cummings stable. Has won his last two trials in excellent style and would have gone on top if not drawing out. Goes close. OPEN SECRET (12) is a daughter of King's Legacy out of Vain Elaine on debut for the John Thompson yard. Got out late when collared her smart stablemate Bel Merci to score in a sharp 740m trial win at Randwick. Clearly has ability and gets her chance from the draw. YOLO (7) has race experience on his side and had excuses when held up in the straight to run fourth over 1100m at Geelong on January 4. Keep safe. MISS FLEETWOOD (10) is a filly by Extreme Choice from Ruud Awakening on debut for the Michael Freedman yard. Solid trials and keep safe.
RACE 2 - TRAFALGAR SQUARE (12) improving filly who wasn't suited on the tight Wyong track when an unlucky fifth behind a few of these over this trip last time out. Better placed here and can finish over the top of them on the limit weight. AIX EN PROVENCE (6) in leading provincial yard and a win looks imminent fifth-up. Better draw will help his cause after going under narrowly to Magnatear last time. Senior rider on and will prove hard to catch. MAGNATEAR (2) came out fast from the sticky draw and pinched a break in the straight when a gritty nose winner over 1600m at Wyong. Confidence is high and the claim helps from the low gate. SMART LEGEND (10) appreciated the drop in weight when scoring a tough win over 1900m at Canterbury. Up in class and look for him late. PIRAEUS (4) enigmatic gelding ready for the mile now and drops in weight. Sure to be strong through the line at the each way quote.
RACE 3 - CLEAR THINKING (1) Dubawi mare undefeated in three runs resuming. Beat a strong field in the heavy (8) going when finishing hard over this track and trip last July. Readied for this with two good trials and sure to go close again. RITZSUN (9) lightly raced gelding with upside. Near his top now after having to work hard from the outside gate when fourth in this class over 1100m at Wyong. Should get the trip and his win record is sound. JOISELLE (7) classy Snitzel mare with good second-up credentials. Drops in weight after showing plenty of grit over the unsuitable 1000m at Wyong. Never handled the heavy track in town last prep and looks ready for this. HIGHWAY STRIP (8) smart sprinter who just failed to pick up Sir Remlap when second over this track and trip last start. Since fitted with a trial and senior rider booked.
RACE 4 - UNLIMITED (4) scored a commanding victory over this track and trip two back, then up in class and distance when an unlucky nose second to Bullets High over 2100m at Wyong. That form is good enough for this and looks hard to stop. AGITA (8) massive rise in grade today after ploughing through the heavy (8) going for a slick victory over 1600m at Warwick Farm on January 8. Ready for this on the limit weight and can surprise a few of his more fancied rivals. ZAPHOD (3) improving gelding with a solid win record. Up in grade and trip and may have struggled to see the 2100m out when seventh at Wyong. Finds a suitable race with senior rider engaged. CLAIM THE CROWN (6) bumped into Saltcoats at his last two outings and will find this more to his liking from the good draw. Stable in-form and finds a winnable race. OUR ANCHORAGE (5) well bred Galileo gelding who looks to have come back stronger after winning well over 1800m at Randwick Kensington. Underrated stayer with top-four claims.
RACE 5 - DON DIEGO DE VEGA (2) exciting French import back for his second prep. Showed plenty of toughness in two Australian runs last time and his two recent trials suggest he's in for a very good prep. Hard in the market and has a dynamite fresh record. VEGA MAGNIFICO (4) another from the Neasham & Archibald camp who returned with a surprise victory over 1500m here. Takes on a stronger field today after returning good splits first-up. Down in weight and can race closer. FOR VICTORY (8) win record hardly excites and worth another chance on the limit in this stronger race. No surprise to see him prove hard to hold out. MISS YOU ELLA (7) has needed the two runs back and no match for Perfumist with the 59kg over the 1400m here on January 4. In-form jockey rides and drops 6kg in weight. Respect. SUPER HELPFUL (1) tough Canberra gelding who ran a respectable fifth over this trip in the The Lakes at Wyong. Just under a month between runs for that and strips fitter here.
RACE 6 - IMPOSANT (8) improving mare fitter now third-up and comes out of a strong form race. Returned good closing splits in a fast run race when a narrow second to Headley Grange over 1300m at Wyong on January 25. Can race closer from the better gate and take holding out. QATARS CHOICE (14) lightly raced filly who resumed with a dominant maiden victory over 1200m at Canterbury. Drops 4kg in weight for this and expected to go through her grades this prep. POINT AND SHOOT (11) has come a long way this prep winning his maiden at Nowra first-up, and running a sound third over 1300m at Wyong in this class last start. Hard fit now and sure to be attacking the line late. KEENAN (2) had excuses in his last two runs and best form is good enough to see him take a hand in the finish.
RACE 7 - BONITA QUEEN (1) exciting mare going quickly through her grades. Showed blistering pace from the wide gate on resumption when leading throughout for an effortless victory over 1100m at Wyong. Meets a stronger field again and should get control early despite drawing out. Keeps raising the bar and will prove hard to catch. QUEEN OF THE MILE (5) in peak form and had excuses on the tight Wyong track when shuffled back early before finishing fourth over 1100m at Wyong. Wadick keeps the ride and expected to go close. HUSK (12) surprised second-up when a gritty winner over this trip at Warwick Farm in the heavy going. Ready for this harder contest at the each way quote. COSMONOVA (7) has needed the two runs back and on the quick bounce after being outsprinted over the 1100m at Rosehill last Saturday. Undefeated this trip and can turn it around. SALISANO (4) returns from a let-up and proven in this grade. Won well first-up and gets map favours.
RACE 8 - HEADLEY GRANGE (3) ready to go to the next level now third-up after running fast time when a commanding winner over 1300m at Wyong. Proven over this trip and better placed out to the 1400m. The one to beat. SANDPAPER (1) first run for the Bjorn Baker yard resulted in a classy win over 1200m at Wyong. Fitter now and goes equally as well at his second race start. Has the pace to get over from the awkward gate and take a hand in the finish. NOBLE CONQUEROR (5) sprinted well when a surprise winner first-up, then drifted back when catching the eye late to run fifth over 1350m at Wyong. Claim helps again and he looks the value play in the race. INVADER ZIM (6) due for a change of luck after getting shuffled a little further back than expected when fifth over 1300m at Wyong. Senior rider on and has the figures to take this out. STARMAN (7) only the three wins and needs everything to go right in his races. Out to his right trip and look for him charging late.
RACE 9 - HEZDARNHOTTOO (11) another from the Baker yard who was unlucky not to win first-up when powering late for a narrow second behind Cosmic Fire over 1100m at the Sunshine Coast. Has the speed to get across early and land the prize. FLYING DESTINY (1) ready to win fourth-up with Osmond's 3kg claim from the low draw. Run down late in a similar race at Wyong last start. Doesn't have to improve much to take this out. BOSTON ROCKS (6) stretches out to the 1200m for the first time this campaign and reunited with winning rider Tim Clark. Has mixed it with stronger opposition and no excuses from the good gate. UNSTOPABULL (5) model of consistency this time in and is a worthy contender after finishing in the money at all three runs this prep. Gets map favours and must be respected. STEP ASIDE (10) resumes after doing the bulk of his racing in Victoria last time in. Blinkers go on and look for him poking through late with the two trials under the belt.
