Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - RULESQUE (4) has shown improvement in her first 2 starts this season and he is dropping down to country class third up. A good draw helps and he is capable of taking this out. G'DAY BLOKE (1) will probably start favourite after some solid form at Albany and from the pole position, he will be hard to hold out. HAVE A SESSION (6) needed his fresh-up run at Albany a fortnight ago and strips fitter second up. Each way value in a field that lacks depth. KIA ORA KOE (5) gave a good kick off the front at Albany 8 days ago and those front-running tactics are a bonus around this circuit. Stick with him. FLAMETREE LADY (8) was not too bad last start and is worth including in all combinations. SMOOTH CHINO (7) won a recent Albany trial and is not out of this on debut.
RACE 2 - SETAGAYA (8) should continue what should be a good day for top trainer Adam Durrant who invariably has a good day when trekking to this circuit. She will be peaking third-up after a solid effort as favourite at Albany 2 weeks ago. On top. I LOVE LUCY A LOT (7) did not finish his race off as well as expected at Albany last time out after a good effort for third there before that. She is with another chance in this. BRANDBERG (1) just battled into fourth over a mile at Albany 8 days ago and may be better off being kept to the shorter trips for now. The blinkers are on for the first time and he has each-way claims. MAYBE DIVINE (2) was not too far away last time out and is worth including in all combinations to be safe. RUPERTS QUEEN (9) did well to finish fourth at Albany last start after getting her tongue over the bit. She will be at her peak fitness now and with the advantage of the pole position, she can figure in the finish.
RACE 3 - PARC IT IN HERE (3) broke through for his first win at Albany 2 starts back before a fast finishing fourth there over a mile last time out. The extra 250m is ideal and he can have the last say. On top. SPANISH KAT (4) has been racing well and was only beaten by a nose at Pinjarra-Scarpside a week ago over 2200m after making all the running. He will be very hard to peg back in this. LATHAMS WISH (6) was less than a length from the winner when finishing fifth in the same race as the top pick last time out. He too will relish the step up to 1850m and can figure in the top 3 this time. THE ROAN RANGER (1) is a durable veteran who is resuming from a spell. He is normally thereabouts and with 2 trials under his belt, he should be ready to run a race. Include in all combinations. SECRET STONES (2) was not suited by racing in front last start and dropped out in the run home. He is likely to be ridden more quietly this time and in his first start over a middle distance, he can bounce back.
RACE 4 - SIRIUS STORM (4) has been racing his way into full fitness and came home with a rush when finishing runner-up by just over a length at Albany a fortnight ago and he will hoping for a genuine tempo here. He is poised to have the last say this time. BEST OF THE GODS (3) let down with a well-timed effort to score over the top pick in the same race last start. He is worse off at the weights with that runner this time but with another good draw, he can repeat the dose. DO DA DITTY (7) made up a lot of late ground after getting back further than expected last time out at Albany 8 days ago and she will be hoping to settle a touch closer this time. Stick with her on an each-way basis. SAILORALONG (2) was an all-the-way maiden winner fresh up for a new stable at Albany 2 weeks ago and with Jason Whiting picking up the ride, there is no reason why he can't win again. ELSA'S PRIDE (8) dropped down in class and found form with a bold second last start. She can go one better here.
RACE 5 - KIA ORA TATOU (9) only battled fresh up at Ascot 11 days ago but he is very well placed in this with 4kg less to carry against what is probably a softer option. A good draw should make him hard to beat at possibly some decent each-way value. THIS'LL SHOW YA (6) gave a good kick after leading up a strong field at Ascot just over 2 weeks ago and those front-running tactics are normally an advantage on this circuit. She will be hard to peg back again. BLUE LINE (1) was keyed up before the start at Albany last start and finished fourth. He has a good record on this track and should be right in the finish this time. FRANTIC WAR (3) is usually thereabouts and was less than a length from the winner when running third at Albany 8 days ago. Kyra Yuill sticks with him and so do we. Each way. PRAY AGAIN (2) has changed stables since last racing at Belmont. He will find the company in the country more to his liking and can give this a shake fresh up. A market watch is advised.
RACE 6 - KING CARTEL (1) has been below his best in his last couple of starts at Ascot and has found a nice race to regain some of his confidence. He could possibly lead all the way here. On top. WARRALEA LASS (12) is usually better off over more ground and with a run under her belt but she is down in class and can easily rip off a race like this fresh up. A market watch is advised. MAGNABURMA (6) was beaten by a wide draw last time out and cops another tricky gate here. The pace is likely to be on here and he can have the last say. Jason Whiting sticks with him and so do we. HOW PRETTY (5) is a very capable mare on her day and needed her last start at Ascot. She has less space between runs this time and can bounce straight back into the money. ZAC LUVS TO FLY (10) fought hard to the line when finishing fifth at Ascot 11 days ago. He has a decent record on this track and is worth including in all combinations to be safe.
RACE 7 - PLAYING RIO (4) beat a similar lineup when winning the feature at Albany 2 weeks ago and he has been placed in both of his starts here over the trip. He has to carry an extra 3kg this time but can repeat the dose. BEAU ZOOM (1) was runner-up behind the top pick last time out and meets that runner better off at the weights this time. Whether that is enough for the tables to be turned, remains to be seen. FINAL SIREN (3) finished runner-up in a 4-horse field at Ascot last time out after setting the pace. Those tactics are a help around this circuit and he could be the one to peg back again. INVINCIBLE POWER (7) gives his trainer Rebecca Bayliss a strong hand in this race and he is by no means the least of her chances. He has a good draw and another honest effort can be expected. VONSNIP (11) is normally consistent and was runner-up in lesser company at Albany last time out. She has 6kg less to carry this time and is capable of a top-3 finish if everything goes her way.
RACE 8 - KING'S PARADE (7) has had a poor run of draws lately and did well off a wide trip when finishing fourth at Albany a fortnight ago. He has 3.5kg less to carry this time and from a superior gate, he can take this out at what should be some decent each-way value. ODINAKA (3) ran his best race yet when finishing third at Albany 8 days ago. The extra 350m will suit him and with a slight dip in class, he can figure in the finish again. Follow your money. MR MT WALKER (6) is a durable veteran who took 3 runs before hitting his stride this season and scoring at Albany by a short-head 2 weeks ago. He usually holds his form when fit and another good run is expected. Each way. MACK MACK (5) should be ready to show some form after having 4 runs back from a spell. He is nicely placed after a 2kg claim and the extra 250m will suit him. Include in all combinations. RUDHYAR (1) is a handy performer on his day and was too strong at Albany last time out. Go again. Each way.
