Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - SNOWDONIA (13) won a trial and then just missed at Hobart on debut. Presents fitter and will be tough to beat. PEAK A BOOM (9) peaks and has been threatening. Has an awkward gate to overcome but benefits from a 2kg claim and has each-way claims. GEEGEEHAILSTORM (7) has been knocking on the door and is one of the better chances after scratchings. HARTFELT (5) debuts for the Trinder yard and has had a string of trials. Has gone close the last two and maps for a soft run. Keep onside at a price.
RACE 2 - MATEUS (2) peaks off three narrow defeats and he was backed off the map over this distance last time. Has a 2kg claim and rates to go one better. MILES 'N' MILES (3) went close over this trip and then didn't see out the middle distance. This will suit better and he can improve into the finish. MONCLERE (9) has been around the mark and stretching out to the mile should suit. Look for him to be hitting the line. ARCADE BOY (1) is lightly raced and needs this trip. Not sure the inside gate suits but he'll be in the mix with average luck.
RACE 3 - LINDRUM (5) won easily and then just missed over 2100m and then lacked finishing zip coming back to a sprint. The mile suits much better and he keeps the 2kg claim. He's likely to push forward and will go close if that works out. LILY LUELLA (4) led and won on the synthetic and then stepped up to this distance at Hobart and was caught on the line. She may control the race again and is a decent chance to bounce. PROPHET EYES (6) was found wanting over a middle distance but had won and just missed here the two prior over this trip. That form would see him right in the finish and he's been freshened. LONDIANI (2) is hard to catch but is capable on his day.
RACE 4 - Competitive. WICKHAM LIGHT (1) resumed on the synthetic and just missed place heavily bet. He is proven this track/trip and will likely race handy. Fitter and has decent claims. MATERIAL MADAM (5) brings a comfortable Maiden win from Hobart and has plenty of scope for improvement. Races forward and will get every chance to repeat. OCEAN EYES (6) won her Maiden here as expected and maps well. Has claims with the in-form Sanderson staying aboard. SWINGING IT (13) is speedy and had excuses last time. Draws well and will carry a feather with the 3kg claim.
RACE 5 - Tricky. SANDUAL (4) resumes with a form hoop booked. He usually needs a run but maps well and is suited in this lineup. Stablemate ROMANESCO FRESCO (12) resumed with a 2L defeat at Hobart in a 68 and is an improved galloper. Maps well and gets in light with the 2kg claim. She will get every chance. LIBERTY RAE (7) peaks and will be sharper back on turf. She's going well enough to consider. SUNSHINE MOSHE (5) has more to give and the 2kg claim is handy. In the mix.
RACE 6 - A small field but a keen contest. The Blacker yard looks to hold the aces. RUBBLE 'N' FUDD (2) delivered the hat-trick before a spell heavily bet and has trialled sharply for his return. The promising galloper will be naturally improved and the in-form Sanderson remains aboard. Can keep the ball rolling. PEROLA (5) resumed in good order and has more up the sleeve. Sits down in the weights this level with a 2kg claim atop. ARUMA (1) won a 76 on the synthetic first-up and is sure to build on that. She has decent claims as does GLORY MISSION (4) who is back on turf and is building a tidy record.
RACE 7 - BINE (4) has been threatening a win and has decent claims in this line-up. She went close at Hobart last time and has a sharp record this course/trip. GOLDEN MEADOW (7) is racing well and has been kept on the fresh side for the shorter sprint. A senior hoop goes aboard today. ETOSHA (3) found it a bit short at Longford but led beaten less than 1L this grade/distance at Hobart prior. Keeps the handy 3kg claim and is also a chance. FAKE MAGIC (1) is better suited back to this grade and has the ability. The 2kg claim brings him into it.
RACE 8 - FAST THINKER (2) brings a strong of wins and keeps improving. The inside gate advantages the speedy galloper and the 2kg claim brings him right into it. ES AND ES (7) resumed with a comfortable win on the synthetic. He flies second-up and has turf figures good enough. He can go back to back without surprise. RIGOLETTO (4) won here and then went close at Hobart after this grade/trip. Has the 2kg claim and will present at peak fitness. ROMARY (1) resumes and is much better than the formline suggests. Owns two sharp trials and keep safe. LOVIN' BEV (5) will be fitter and is sure to lead a merry chase. Has to be included.
