Sanctimonious for Warracknabeal glory
The fifth race at Warracknabeal is a 1600m Benchmark 52 handicap expected to be held on a soft 5 track.
Timbolton is expected to start favourite having broken through for his first win of 2024, when successful over 1400m at Bendigo just under two weeks ago.
The gelding came home just over one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals when racing on a soft 6 track that day and he has a fair barrier in six here.
Jackie Beriman's mount finished strongly at Bendigo and shaped as if the step up in distance would suit on that occasion.
However, SANCTIMONIOUS is preferred on this occasion, with the eight-year-old having registered a couple of big efforts in defeat in recent starts.
The pick placed third when jumping at $71 for a 1412m Restricted 58 handicap held on a good 4 track at Mildura three starts back.
While the veteran failed to shine when eighth at Swan Hill subsequently, he returned to form when catching the eye in finishing runner-up at Bendigo on 15th June.
The Helen Burns-trained galloper lost out by three-and-a-half-lengths, when finishing strongly from off the pace that day and the extra distance is no issue in this contest.
Apprentice Tianni Chapman, on board that day is again set to ride, with the pair capable of recording their second win together.
Hill for Tamworth success
The sixth at Tamworth is a highly competitive 1200m Benchmark 82 handicap.
The Dramatist is sure to have his supporters for the Rodney Northam stable, having recorded a win on a wet track over 1400m at Scone on his penultimate start.
This six-year-old came home three lengths clear of his rivals when racing on a soft 5 track that day and was slowly away at Rosehill subsequently.
The gelding failed to beat a rival home when beaten over 12 lengths in a 1500m Benchmark 78 handicap at Rosehill and he boasts a good barrier in this event.
Cody Morgan's BROKEN HILL is the selection here, having made just two starts since completing a double in winning at Grafton in April last year.
The pick came home one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals when contesting an 1181m handicap held on a good 4 track that day.
The five-year-old was next in action in The Kosciuszko over 1200m on a good 4 surface at Randwick in October.
Jumping at odds of $61 the gelding trailed in last of 14 in October and he was spelled following that effort.
The selection resumed with a decent effort in finishing just over three lengths back in fifth in a 1000m Benchmark 82 handicap at Scone.
The son of Lonhro boasts an impressive second up record (2/3) and with improvement expected he is taken to deliver a victory wearing a tongue tie for the first time.
Rangatira to salute at Moruya
The penultimate contest on the Moruya card is a 1425m Benchmark 58 handicap event.
RANGATIRA takes the eye in this event having demonstrated good form in placing second in two of his three starts since winning at Queanbeyan on 12th May.
That Queanbeyan victory came when contesting a similar race to this held over 1460m on a soft 7 surface.
John Rolfe's gelding went close to recording the fourth win of his career, when narrowly beaten in a 1300m Benchmark 66 handicap at Goulburn a week ago.
The selection overraced in the early and middle stages of the race that day and she boasts a good barrier four from the rail.
