 Mestalla for Listed glory

The most valuable race on the Randwick card is the eighth race of the day, The Agency Civic Stakes, a $200,000 Listed race set to take place over 1400m.

The six-year-old Tamerlane is expected to have his supporters for the James Cummings team.

The gelding won four times in 2023, including at this level in the Paris Lane Stakes over 1400m in October.

Owned by Godolphin he placed fourth in Group 2 company at Flemington subsequently as well as winning a $300,000 contest at Doomben.

James McDonald returns to the saddle here with his mount having failed to shine over 1300m in Listed company at Scone first up this prep.

While improvement is expected he has to concede weight to his rivals and preference is for ESTADIO MESTALLA.

Joe Pride's representative won over 1500m in Benchmark 88 handicap company when racing on a good 3 track at Rosehill in February.

The selection has delivered three good efforts in defeat since, including when fourth over 1200m in Listed company at Newcastle on his penultimate start.

That effort came on a heavy 9 track, with the soft 7 going expected here no problem, following a fourth in a 1300m Benchmark 94 handicap here on 8th June.

The pick caught the eye in finishing strongly from off the pace last time and stepping up in distance he is taken to salute off a low weight.

 Regal for Cup success

The Ipswich Cup is the seventh race at Ipswich with the 2150m Listed contest attracting a field of 14.

A soft 5 track is expected with the Kris Lees-trained Luncies set to jump as favourite.

The seven-year-old has performed well at a higher level in the past, including when runner-up in the 2000m Group 3 Summer Cup at Randwick in December.

Since resuming from a spell, the gelding has delivered two fifth-place finishes, including when contesting the Group 3 Lord Mayor's Cup over 1800m at Eagle Farm on 1st June.

While the step up in distance is in his favour, preference in this event is for Robbie Dolan's mount REGAL LION.

The gelding recorded a couple of good second-place finishes earlier this prep, including in the Listed Albury Gold Cup over 2000m in March.

That Albury second came on a good 4 track, however, the pick handles wet surface as evidenced by his fourth in the Group 3 JRA Chairman's Handicap at Doomben.

The selection raced on a soft 7 track over 2000m in that Doomben event held last month and he drops in trip following an eight over 2400m at Eagle Farm last time.

Annabel Neasham's representative shouldn't have any issues jumping from barrier 11 and he is taken to record the fourth win of his career.

 Links to claim Sprint

The finale at Flemington is the VRC Country Race Day Sprint for three-year-old's and is set to take place over 1100m on a good 4 surface.

LINKS is less exposed than most in this field however, as she is a course and distance winner having saluted on a soft 7 track here on her penultimate start.

The daughter of Spieth subsequently delivered an eye-catching fourth when beaten just over two lengths in a track and trip contest earlier this month.

The pick jumped at $26 when finishing strongly from off the pace and she is closely matched with a number of her rivals here on that form.

Celine Gaudray takes the ride and the pair are taken to go one better than when teaming up for a second at Moonee Valley in December.
