The Queensland Derby & Kingsford Smith meeting at Eagle Farm has been postponed.
Wet weather has forced Group One racing at Eagle Farm to be postponed after jockeys expressed concerns with kickback and visibility.
With rain failing, the track was downgraded to a soft 7 at 10:40am, then continually downgraded to a heavy 10 retrospective to the Group 2 BRC Sires' Produce before the meeting was called off.
The riding group, which included all senior jockeys, expressed their concern that poor visibility made riding unsafe, with the decision made to postpone the remaining four races.
Racing Queensland stewards, including chief steward Josh Adams, were happy to continue monitoring the track, noting that the rain was set to ease.
Stewards also noted that there was no surface water on the track, or any water gathering in holes in the track.
"Unfortunately we had that delay after the Sires and that downpour left visibility issues for the riding group," Adams said.
"We don't have a problem with the track, we actually think it's a genuine heavy ten but the visibility was becoming a concern so due to safety issues we have postponed the remainder of the card."
"We will work with Racing Queensland to see when we can rescheduled those races but horse and rider safety is paramount."
The postponed races included the Group 1 Queensland Derby and Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup, as well as the Group 3 Fred Best Classic and Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes.
Racing Queensland confirmed that the Queensland Derby, Kingsford Smith Cup and Helen Coughlan Stakes would be shifted to Saturday alongside the existing Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m), while the Fred Best Classic will be run at Doomben on Wednesday.
Next Saturday's meeting will consist of ten races with two benchmark races to be assigned elsewhere.
Before the delay, Cool Archie ran out a dominant 2-3/4 length winner of the Group 2 BRC Sires' Produce, once again relishing the testing conditions and cementing himself as a key chance for the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 14.
"We were confident coming in today and taking the blinkers off was probably the key there," co-trainer Corey Munce said.
"He relished the wet track and 1400 (metres). On that you have to say that he runs a mile."
