A look at the off-the-track mares to be offered on the Gold Coast ranked by rating.
Magic Millions will offer 11 Group 1 winners at this year's National Broodmare Sale, eight of whom who have only recently been retired or still have racing upside.
Below is a look at how those being offered in Tuesday's race fillies and mares section rank from a Racing And Sports Rating perspective.
121 – LADY LAGUNA (Overshare x Catalina De Lago)
The Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained five-year-old enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence early last year when she put together a run of four wins (and a second) from five starts, culminating in a Canterbury Stakes (1300m) win over Think About It, which was the race that produced her career-high rating. Her next-best efforts were a pair 115 performances, which came the two starts prior to her lone Group 1 win.
120 – ATISHU (Savabeel x Posy)
Eleven of her last 12 starts came at Group 1 level, during which time she only won one race – the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) – when she ran to 118. That's the same figure she ran in her first Group 1 win, the 2023 Queen Of The Turf (1600m), while her Group 1 Champions Stakes (2000m) win in Spring 2023 was the equal highest-rating win of her career. She also ran 120 in last year's Champions Stakes, when second to Via Sistina.
119 – ZOUGOTCHA (Zoustar x Fast Talker)
Like her Chris Waller-trained stablemate Atishu, Zougotcha is a three-time winer at the highest level but they were in 118 – last year's Queen Of The Turf, in which she defeated Atishu – 116 (Flight Stakes) and 115 (Coolmore Classic). Her Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) win over Lady Laguna was her highest-rating victory, while she also ran 119 when a narrow second to Via Sistina in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) first-up last Spring.
116 – BELCLARE (Per Incanto x Miss Rhythmic)
Struck a purple patch last Spring, when she won the $2m The Invitation (1400m) and Group 2 Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) in consecutive starts after being transferred to Bjorn Baker, running to 116 on each occasion. Her Group 1 win, in the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1600m) came in 110.
115 – CLIMBING STAR (Zoustar x Bryony)
Was an original entry for this sale last year but Qatar Racing's decision to withdraw the Phillip Stokes-trained mare and chase Group 1 glory at the Adelaide Carnival paid dividends when she won the Sangster Stakes (1200m) in what would end up her career-high rating.
114 – CAMPIONESSA (Contributer x Bella Carolina)
Scored her Group 1 win in her native New Zealand, running 112 to win the 2050m Zabeel Classic in late 2023 but put up her peak number a few months later when she carried the Te Akau Racinf colours to victory over Melbourne Cup winners Vow And Declare and Gold Trip in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m).
113 – SOCKS NATION (Sioux Nation x Tahnee Tiara)
Was a shock winner of last year's Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m), when she ran to 107, but the Ciaron Maher-trained mare ran her biggest figure when third in last year's Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes.
112 – ALSEPHINA (Star Turn x Delta Gee)
Like Socks Nation, the Perth mare also ran her peak number in last year's Empire Rose Stakes, in which she finished fourth. Trainers Grant and Alana Williams got her to run 112 on two other occasions as well, though; last year's Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) win and her 2023 Railway Stakes (1600m) second placing.
110 – REVOLUTIONARY MISS (Russian Revolution x Purcentage)
Is a triple Group 2 winner, the first coming at start No 3 in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) when trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, and the latest for Ciaron Maher in last year's Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington, when she ran the biggest number of her career. It pipped a couple of Group 3 wins in 109 as a career high.
The other Group 1 winner being sold on Tuesday is Femminile, who ran 106 to win this year's South Australian Derby
The race fillies and mares section kicks off this year's National Broodmare Sale on Tuesday, May 27 with the broodmare section to follow on May 28 with a host of Stakes performers to be offered, many in-foal to some of the world's best stallions.
