WIN OF THE DAY
Generosity had gone close to knocking off a big win in her previous 18 starts and for a fleeting moment it looked as though she was to be a bridesmaid again, but courtesy of Lucy Fiore's ride and the mare's powerful turn of foot, she was able to get out of a potentially negative position to breakthrough and claim her first black-type success in the Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m).
JOCKEY
Lucy Fiore made her first ride on Generosity a successful one, box seating and taking the split between horses when the run presented with 200m remaining. It capped the second leg of a treble after Brazen Empress, a mare she knows well from the last Kalgoorlie season, won first-up in a surprise, holding out hot favourite, Hymns Of Eladdair by a neck, before rounding out the day on Sail Session, a dominant winner of the last.
Chris Parnham was dynamite early and kicked it off when leading on Shmoov Mover, was similarly in front on Kings Court, riding the two-year-old out desperately and combined again with Luke Fernie when Keep Ita Mystery let down strongly in the straight.
Immediate success for Pat Carbery who jumped on Our Rocky Bay for the first time and even though it wasn't a pretty to watch aesthetically it was super effective and extra tough in difficult circumstances. The four-year-old was off a six-day break, commenced sluggishly and ran off the corner when Mister Raffles lay outwards, but pulled out plenty when it counted to go back-to-back for trainer, Ted Martinovich.
TRAINER
A double to Simon Miller with two of his nicer types: Shmoov Mover and Generosity in the feature.
Peter Fernie got the ball rolling for the family with Brazen Empress before his son Luke took over with a double, preparing Kings Court, part of his impressive juvenile team and Keep Ita Mystery.
BEATEN FAVOURITES
Hymns Of Elladdair, Split The Gee, Too Dary, Brave Strike, Covert Rose and Bonjoy.
HARD LUCK STORY
Bonjoy lost no admirers in defeat and goes to the paddock at the end of a breakout campaign with her head held high. She was unable to get a clear run and build the momentum required until late when runner-up to Generosity.
Exceed The Boom raced wide throughout when third to Kings Court.
WHAT HAPPENED
Too Dardy settled back and pretty much stayed there for the entire, finishing ahead of only one other runner. He started favourite and usually goes well fresh. A post-race vet examination revealed nothing untoward.
HORSES TO FOLLOW
A fine return from Elite Missile who had the race against him with Shmoov Mover getting a cheap time of it in front.
Deltason made up a ton of ground from last after taking the short cut home along the fence.
After a setback, Sail Session has his WA Derby campaign back on track. The Sessions gelding gets a chance to press his claims again in next week's Roberts Stakes.
