The Tasmanian Summer Racing Festival ramps up a notch or two this weekend with five feature races to be decided in Hobart on Sunday.

The 2yo's will step out in the Listed $125,000 Kevin Sharkie Elwick Stakes (1100m). The Hobart and Launceston Cup hopefuls will contest the WFA Summer Cup (2200m). 3yo fillies hold centre stage in the 1600m $75,000 Thousand Guineas, the $75,000 Blackflash (1100m) for the sprinting 3yo fillies and the $50,000 Lady Lynette (1100m) is a pipe opener for the mares on route to the Mystic Journey and Vamos Stakes.

Unbeaten 2yo Zany Girl is likely to be the favourite for the Elwick Stakes, and she could not have been more impressive at her two runs to date.

"She was very impressive on debut and probably more impressive at her second run when she missed the start, overraced and got into a bit of trouble," Joe O'Neill from Prime Thoroughbreds said.

"I think the step out to 1100m will be to her advantage. I was talking to (trainer) Stuart (Gandy) yesterday, and he said her work this week has been outstanding."

Her stablemate Geegees Missile, who has been twice placed behind Zany Girl, looks the main danger, although first starters Crack The Shutters, also from the Gandy stable, was an impressive recent trial winner, and Wolf Junior trialled nicely at Longford on Tuesday.

The highly talented Ms Tasmania returns to racing in the Blackflash. Her trainer Siggy Carr had entered her for both the Blackflash and the Lady Lynette.

"I thought he was unfairly weighted in the Lady Lynette; better to stick to her own age with only a 2kg difference to the Lady Lynette's weight," Carr said.

Ms Tasmania has raced five times for four wins; her defeat was the only time she raced in Hobart at her first start in November 2023; she found problems that day and finished third. Her four wins have all been in Launceston.

"Still unsure about Hobart, but she will answer that for me on Sunday."

Ms Tasmania has drawn barrier one, and with Carr still on the sidelines, her partner Troy Baker, who has been aboard for the past two wins, again has the ride.

The Patrick and Michelle Payne-trained Alhambra Lad returns for the Summer Cup, the race he won last year before being unplaced in the Hobart Cup and runner-up in the Launceston Cup; the powerful Ciaron Maher stable has accepted with Strawberry Rock and Promises Kept.

The first event is set down for 13:10.
