Deserved break for winner

Kaliuwaa Falls kept intact his unbeaten run in Hobart since joining the Imogen Miller team, and took his overall record to 25 starts for eight wins, taking out the 1600m Open Hcp in Hobart on Sunday.

Despite there being only three starters, it was a spirited race with just a short head and a neck separating the trio at the finish.

Kaliuwaa Falls ($1.85) will likely have a spell from racing now, with Imogen Miller thinking the 5YO may measure up to better company next summer.

"I think it was a good effort from him. He's probably coming to the end of a really good prep down here; it was a tricky little race, we weren't sure how it would unfold, but it worked perfectly for him at the finish," Miller said

"We've got an eye on the next carnival with him. We will probably give him a freshen up now and look at some Open (class) races over the winter for him and see what happens and how it unfolds, but he's a nice handy horse."

Since arriving at Miller's stable just after Christmas, Kaliuwaa Falls has raced seven times for five wins.

Etosha again

Terry Evans, Catherine Van Munster and Etosha are becoming quite the combination after another all-the-way win over 1100m in the BM68.

The trio has combined for three wins in a row in Hobart, the only blemish an unplaced run in Launceston three starts back.

Etosha ($2.40) again sped to the front, and although he didn't get out to lead by as much as last time, he was always travelling like the winner.

"They tried to pressure him today, but they found out you can't pressure him," Evans said.

"He's kept the flag flying for the stable that's for sure.

"I think there's a 1009m race coming up in Devonport in a few weeks, so we will probably head for that."

For Van Munster, the win was her sixth overall, with three of those coming on Etosha.

"They just can't keep up with him; I thought something would take him on after last time, but they just can't go with him early," the winning jockey said.

A win at last

Consistent galloper Tough Impact ($3) broke through for an overdue win in the 1200m maiden, after being runner-up at his past three outings.

Coming off a solid second in a good form race last time, Tough Impact jumped quickly and led throughout to score.

"We work him at home, keep him quiet, he only goes to the track to race, and for an occasional gallop," trainer Alana Fulton explained.

"We just lunge him and play around with him at home, we've got a 400m jog track at home, he's loving life at the moment.

"We're all learning with him; he's starting to settle now; we took all the gear off him, and he's racing in an open bridle so he can see where he's going and what he's doing, and I think he's really enjoying it."

At the end of the event, Tough Impact had a 1/2 length to spare from We All Decide ($9), with She Plays Games third ($4).

On the back-up Shakeeda breaks through

Shakeeda has quickly repaid his new connections with an emphatic win in the 2100m maiden/class 1 after backing up from running in Devonport last Wednesday.

Shakeeda has only had two runs since joining the Andrew Moore stable for the second-place cheque on Wednesday and Sunday's win.

Shakeeda ($2.90) was always well in the market and given a lovely front-running ride from apprentice Jackson Radley. Miles 'N' Miles ($9) ran home well to finish second, and that pair gapped the rest.
