The highly touted four-year-old High Above bounded into reckoning for a berth in the world's richest harness race with a dominant win in the opening event.

The Emma Stewart trained pacer unleashed a stunning sprint to round up the leaders in a 27.2 back straight quarter before putting a sizeable gap on his rivals in the home straight to score by 10 metres from Vee Em Gee Macray and Crime Writer.

High Above revealed his true credentials after being beaten in all three starts this time in as a short priced favorite, with champion reinswoman Kerryn Manning maintaining her perfect record of three wins behind the pacer from as many drives.

"I've got a good record on him," Manning said.

"He was good tonight, a bit of a different horse to the last time I drove him as he was less wayward tonight and his manners are certainly improving," she said.

Manning said High Above rates favorably with some of the best horses she has driven.

"He's got such great high speed that he's pretty thrilling horse to drive," she said.

"He's certainly got as much talent at a lot of the good horses that I've driven, he's very green and has a few tricks but he has come a long way since I drove him at his first start.

He's a tall horse and all legs and it's a bit deceiving how fast he is going."

Later in the night the David Moran prepared four-year-old Captain Hammerhead showed he deserves another tilt at the TAB Eureka with a breathtaking win in the Lifestyle Communities Pace.

Nathan Jack sent Captain Hammerhead around to sit outside the well backed $1.80 favorite The Lost Storm with 1600 metres to travel.

Jack opted to turn the race into a survival of the fittest in a blistering 26.9 back straight quarter as Captain Hanmerhead cruised past The Lost Storm with 600 metres to travel.

In a matter of strides Captain Hammerhead put the race beyond doubt and made a statement to slot holders as he comfortably held a 20 metre margin on the line in a mile rate of 1:52.6, only 1.5 seconds outside the track record.

Moran said Captain Hammerhead was nearing peak form after the race.

"I thought he was terrific," Moran said.

"The past has shown he has never been 100 per cent first up and he will take a lot out of the run- he was exceptional tonight," he said.

Moran said the son of Captaintreacherous was worthy of a place in the TAB Eureka.

"You'd be pretty disappointed if he wasn't given a run in the Eureka, if he wasn't given an invite somewhere there as I'm not too sure what more the horse has got to do," he said.

"I've stated for a long time that he's a really good horse and he's getting better all the time," he said.

"Every time he has a little let up he comes back better."
