Harlem caused a major upset, reversing some average recent form to win his second race in Australia and fourth overall including three stakes. Michael Walker settled the European import in sixth early (rails) improving slightly to be fourth at the 800m. Turning in he was still fourth looking for a way through but the split didn't take place until the 300m where Walker thrust him between the two leaders at the 200m then drove hard for the line, having a half length to spare when it mattered. Gailo Chop sat outside the winner around the corner and into the straight, co-led at the 300m and held the lead alone at the 200m but could not answer the winner over the last 100m for a game second. Ventura Storm held sixth (rails) near the last corner, was crowded at the 300m then ran home strongly when clear for a nice third from Almandin who didn't see daylight until the 150m then rattled into fourth down on the inner.
